AB Face Tough Away Test Against Hobro IK

AB Gladsaxe play their third match of the Betinia Liga season tomorrow, Saturday, August 8, 2026, as they travel to face Hobro IK.

The match will be played at DS Arena, with referee Mathias Lykke set to kick off the game at 4:00 PM. He will be assisted by Dennis Wollenberg Rasmussen and Alex Petersen, while Patrick Remon Gammelholm will serve as fourth official.

Hobro IK finished ninth in last season's Betinia Liga. They won their most recent league match 2–1 away to Vendsyssel in Hjørring. However, in midweek the two clubs met again in the Betano Cup, where Hobro suffered a 4–0 home defeat to Vendsyssel FF at DS Arena.

AB have made a solid start to life in the Betinia Liga, earning draws against the two relegated Superliga clubs—2–2 away to Vejle and 1–1 at home against FC Fredericia. AB also advanced in the Betano Cup during the week with a 2–1 victory over Holbæk B&I.

The Miracle in Hobro

Hobro IK have often been described as one of Danish football's great fairy tales. After winning promotion from the 2nd Division West in June 2010, they reached the nationwide Danish First Division, and by 2014 had earned promotion all the way to the Superliga. Despite operating on a modest budget with semi-professional players, Hobro consistently challenged some of Denmark's biggest clubs, creating one of the country's most remarkable football stories—one that even became the subject of a documentary.

Interestingly, AB were Hobro's very first opponents in the First Division, defeating them 4–1 away from home on August 7, 2010.

Another memorable meeting came on June 10, 2012, in what many AB supporters still remember as The Miracle in Hobro. It was the final match of the 2011/12 season, and AB were on the verge of relegation to the Second Division. To survive, AB needed to beat league leaders Hobro IK while also relying on Brønshøj to defeat FC Roskilde.

The miracle happened.

AB stunned Hobro 3–1, with Christian Gytkjær scoring twice to make it 1–0 and 3–0, while Semere Haile added the second goal. The tension at Hobro Stadium was unbearable as AB's match finished several minutes before Brønshøj's. Finally, news arrived from Tingbjerg: Brønshøj had beaten FC Roskilde 2–1, thanks to a decisive goal from Simon Bræmer.

Celebrations erupted in Hobro as AB's players and staff embraced on the pitch. Although Brønshøj were coached by Bo Henriksen, it was undoubtedly AB manager Kasper Kurland who was the happiest man in Denmark that day.

After two consecutive draws, AB will be eager to claim their first league victory of the season, and there is little doubt that the coaching staff have prepared thoroughly for the challenge ahead.

Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson: "It will be a difficult match."

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson expects a very different challenge this weekend. "Hobro are a very difficult team to play against. They're a physical side that constantly wants to compete in duels, and they defend in a very compact shape.

This will be a more complicated match than the two league games we've already played. We have to be ready to battle in every duel. We'll be prepared to match their style, but we also need to control the game and make sure it's played on our terms. It will be a very different scenario from our previous matches. That's our main focus heading into tomorrow's match."
