AB lost 3–1 in front of 1,483 spectators, including a strong contingent of AB fans who provided outstanding support throughout the match.
FC Fredericia are one of the best-playing teams in the Betinia Liga, and they showed why. Fredericia took the lead after six minutes through Jonatan Lindekilde. Saliou Diop equalised in the 29th minute, assisted by Marco Vesterholm, to make it 1–1. William Madsen restored Fredericia's lead in the 70th minute before scoring again in the 78th minute to make it 3–1, which proved to be the final score.
Despite the defeat, AB remain in 4th place, unless Aarhus Fremad win Sunday's match against Hillerød Fodbold by more than four goals.
The AB coaching staff made one change to the starting line-up compared with recent matches. Noah Engell replaced the injured Casper Grening on the left wing.
Adam Benediktsson started in goal, with Adrien Koudelka at right-back and Marius Stenner at left-back. Gabriel Noga partnered Aidan Liu in central defence, while captain Søren Ilsøe and Marco Vesterholm started in midfield. Noah Engell played on the left wing, O’Vonte Mullings on the right, with Milan Silva Rasmussen and Saliou Diop leading the attack.
The Match
The match began at a high tempo, with both teams enjoying spells of momentum. Both sides pressed high up the pitch and controlled possession during their respective periods of dominance.
Fredericia frequently switched play quickly across the pitch, moving the game from one side to the other and occasionally catching AB out of position. They also often played balls in behind AB's defensive line, creating problems for the visitors. Fredericia were particularly dangerous from set pieces and well organised defensively.
After six minutes, Fredericia won a corner on the left and sent the ball into the penalty area. A clever back-heel redirected it to Jonatan Lindekilde, who scored to make it 1–0. Several AB players were positioned too far away from their opponents in the build-up.
Over the following 15 minutes, AB created opportunities by moving the ball quickly up the pitch, but their finishing lacked the necessary quality. Both Adrien Koudelka and Marius Stenner made frequent forward runs and contributed to the build-up play. They also worked hard to get back into position and deal with Fredericia's quick forwards.
Long-range efforts from Søren Ilsøe and Marco Vesterholm were promising attempts, but Fredericia's defence remained well organized.
Gabriel Noga and Aidan Liu also had plenty to deal with, as Fredericia regularly played long balls forward and looked to exploit the space behind the defence. However, throughout the match, the two centerbacks managed to track down several Fredericia attacks and win the ball back from their forwards.
With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Marco Vesterholm won the ball with a strong tackle on a Fredericia player. He played it to Saliou Diop, who struck the ball against the post and into the net to level the score at 1–1.
AB goalkeeper Adam Benediktsson once again delivered a strong performance, making several important interventions. Fredericia created a number of chances both in open play and from free kicks, but Benediktsson came up with some excellent saves.
AB returned for the second half believing there were points to be won. They took control of the game and enjoyed a very good spell. Nevertheless, Fredericia created the first major chance, with a player running through completely unmarked towards goal, but Adam Benediktsson came to the rescue.
AB continued to press, stayed compact and worked their way into promising positions. Good runs and forward passes put Adrien Koudelka in a dangerous position, but could not finish. Ten minutes later, Noah Engell carried the ball forward and delivered a precise cross into the box, only for a Fredericia player to get a fortunate touch and block it. From the resulting corner, Adrien Koudelka headed over the bar.
After 66 minutes, Adrien Koudelka was substituted, with Tobias Damtoft taking over at right-back. Mikkel Clement also came on, replacing Marco Vesterholm in midfield.
Fredericia once again switched the ball across the pitch before delivering a cross into the penalty area, and this time the move paid off. William Madsen found himself with a scoring opportunity and put Fredericia 2–1 ahead.
After 73 minutes, Jermain Fernandes came on in attack, replacing Noah Engell. A minute later, Adam Benediktsson denied a completely unmarked Fredericia player with an important save, but AB were unable to prevent the hosts from scoring again.
A turnover by AB in midfield gave Fredericia the chance to break forward quickly. The ball was played out to the right, where William Madsen cut inside the penalty area and scored to make it 3–1, with around ten minutes of normal time remaining.
A few minutes later, Alfred Horup replaced Søren Ilsøe in midfield, while Tobias Hageltorn came on for Milan Silva Rasmussen in attack.
AB's final chance came deep into stoppage time. Tobias Hageltorn laid the ball back to Mikkel Clement, whose shot struck the crossbar and bounced down very close to the goal line. Fredericia goalkeeper Valdemar Birksø threw himself into the crowd of players and managed to gather the ball.
AB captain Søren Ilsøe felt that Fredericia deserved the victory: “I think they're better during their good spells. We had a long period in the first half when we pushed them back and actually created some good chances. If we'd just had that final bit of quality, I think we could have taken the lead.
We started the second half really well, pushed them back and had a very good spell of momentum, but we didn't manage to score. Then they made it 2–1, and it was a really frustrating goal.
After that, we never really managed to regain our momentum. They kept possession and moved the ball around well. If we'd scored during our good spells, we would have come away with points, but we didn't.
Fredericia are a good footballing side, well organized and with a strong team mindset. It takes a very good performance to take three points from them on their home ground.
We made a few adjustments to our pressing at halftime because we wanted to be more aggressive and stop them from switching play through the middle so often. They're very good at that and rotate positions a lot. During our good spells, they couldn't really build anything, but when we let up, they found more space. We should have stayed more compact.
They made good use of the space behind our defense when we pressed aggressively. That allowed them to turn us around and move us around the pitch. They played a good match, and if we'd scored during our good spells, we would have come away with points. But it's fair enough that they won today,” Søren Ilsøe concluded.
Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson was disappointed with the result: “We had some really good spells, but there were also periods when we weren't good enough. We knew it would be a very difficult match. Most things were good in the first half, but I'm disappointed with how we started. We were caught on our heels and gave them a corner. Fredericia are a fantastic team when it comes to set pieces, and they scored from that corner.
After the goal, we got a little more control of the match, but we were a bit careless in our build-up play, which allowed them to punish us on the counterattack. In those situations, we weren't careful enough and started making mistakes instead of making them work for their chances.
I think we started the second half much better. Every now and then, we lacked a little protection behind the defence. We didn't create enough problems for them in the penalty area, although we had around 15 shots during the match. I think we could have done a little better.
I feel we lost a bit of energy in the second half, so we brought on some fresh legs from the bench. Even when we were 2–1 and then 3–1 down, I still felt we had a chance. It's a difficult stadium to play at, and they're a very good football team. I believe we can go toe-to-toe with them, but today wasn't our day,” Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson concluded.
AB's next match is on Friday 6 November 2026 at 7:00 p.m., when Vendsyssel FF visit Gladsaxe Stadium.
