In many ways, tomorrow night will be a historic occasion as AB hosts Brøndby IF at 19:30 on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at Gladsaxe Stadium in the fourth round of the Betano Cup. Ticket sales have been overwhelming, and all signs point to the stadium attendance record of 10,039 spectators being broken. The current record was set during a Danish Superliga match between AB and FC Copenhagen on 18 April 2004.
AB and Brøndby have not faced each other in a competitive match since 2004, when AB were relegated from the Danish Superliga.
AB head into the cup tie following victories over Holbæk, Brønshøj and, most recently, Superliga side Sønderjyske. Brøndby IF's most recent cup victory came against Vejle BK.
Brøndby IF will be looking for revenge following the teams' most recent meeting, a friendly played on 24 February 2026. AB won that match 3–1 at Brøndby Stadium. AB's three goals were scored by Noah Engell, Jonathan Mathys and Marcus Immersen.
AB currently sit an impressive fourth in the Betinia Liga, while Brøndby IF are fifth in the 3F Superliga.
The match will also see a familiar face return to AB in the form of Brøndby IF head coach Thomas Nørgaard, who began his coaching career at AB. Nørgaard is a familiar name at the club, having coached youth teams at several levels and served as assistant coach for the first team under Henrik Lehm. In June 2013, he was appointed head coach of AB's first team. He left the club on 1 July 2015 to continue his coaching career elsewhere.
As mentioned, AB and Brøndby IF last met in a competitive match back in 2004, when the teams faced each other at Brøndby Stadium on 29 May. AB lost that match 2–1. The name Yaro-Yaro still evokes plenty of nostalgia among AB fans, not least because he scored AB's goal at Brøndby Stadium that day.
Captain Søren Ilsøe Confident the Squad Is Ready
“We’re looking forward to tomorrow. I think the level of excitement is exactly where it should be. We’ve been waiting for this for a while, and now we’re looking forward to facing Brøndby. The game itself is like any other, but the surroundings will be very different from what we’re used to, and that’s something we’re excited about. Whether you play or not, it will be a different atmosphere to be part of.
Right now, I feel that the mood is excellent and we’re looking forward to it. There’s no fear or nervousness — just the excitement of finally seeing Gladsaxe Stadium packed to the rafters. It’s something I’ve personally been looking forward to.
Even though this is a very different occasion, we have the upper hand in terms of our last friendly against them. We’ve faced them before and performed well, so we can take that experience with us as we prepare to meet them again.
I expect Brøndby to bring a strong team. Whether they field their usual starting eleven or other players, they have quality throughout the squad. We know that, and we’re going to give them a real challenge. We’re not stepping onto the pitch just to enjoy ourselves — we want to win this game.
Whoever they bring, it will hurt when we come up against them. They play quickly and make good decisions. We need to be ready for that, and we’ve been training for it. So we’re ready,” Søren Ilsøe concludes.
Assistant Coach Benjamin Chor: The Pressure Is on Brøndby
“We’ve had some really good training sessions leading up to today. We’ve faced our usual luxury problem of deciding who to pick, because we have so many players to choose from. We’ve now selected the squad for the match, and the players know who will be playing — so now it’s simply a case of ‘Bring it on!’
We’re looking forward to the match and to seeing so many people at the stadium. It’s been a long time since we’ve had this many spectators, so we need to enjoy it and hopefully reward them with a good football match. It’s the spectators who make this such a huge occasion. For us, the next match is always the most important one.
At the end of the day, it’s 11 against 11, the ball is round, and the pressure is on Brøndby, not us. We just need to go out there and pursue what we can, taking the game on with the same attacking mindset we always have.
We have three matches in a short period, so we’ll select the team that we believe is right for the game against Brøndby. Not every player can play every match, and we believe we’ve picked the team best equipped to get the job done. After the cup, our focus will turn to the next match, which will then be the most important one,” Benjamin Chor concludes.
