AB Earn Deserved 2-0 Win Over Aarhus Fremad

AB Gladsaxe earned a deserved 2-0 victory over a strong Aarhus Fremad side today.

Post-Match Report

AB Gladsaxe earned a deserved 2-0 victory over a strong Aarhus Fremad side today, in front of 718 spectators at Gladsaxe Stadion. However, Aarhus Fremad never created any major chances. AB were well positioned and remained organized throughout the match.

AB were also the side creating the biggest chances, converting two of them into goals. Saliou Diop put AB ahead 1-0 in the 21st minute, before Milan Silva Rasmussen doubled the lead 15 minutes into the second half.

AB’s Lineup

Compared with previous matches this season, Adrien Koudelka moved to right back. AB’s starting lineup was Adam Benediktsson in goal, Adrien Koudelka at right back and Marius Stenner at left back. Gabriel Noga partnered Aidan Liu in central defense, while captain Søren Ilsøe and Marco Vesterholm played in midfield. Casper Grening started on the left wing, O’Vonte Mullings on the right, with Milan Silva Rasmussen and Saliou Diop leading the attack.

First Half

It was a match between two teams that wanted to play football. It quickly became clear that if AB were going to take points from the game, they would need to be on the front foot throughout. That is exactly what they did, delivering an impressive performance despite Aarhus Fremad’s efforts to push forward.

AB pressed high in Aarhus Fremad’s half. When Aarhus Fremad had the ball, they moved it quickly, and their build-up play—particularly down the left side—created some challenges.

In the opening 20 minutes, AB had several good opportunities to get shots away. Marius Stenner tried his luck from distance, but unfortunately his effort did not find the net. O’Vonte Mullings made his way to the byline and delivered a cross into the middle of the box for Gabriel Noga, who was unable to get past Aarhus Fremad goalkeeper Viktor Højbjerg.

Aarhus Fremad won a free kick on the left side, close to the penalty area, but the ball was blocked by AB’s defensive wall.

Milan Silva Rasmussen cleverly dispossessed an Aarhus Fremad defender before running toward the byline and crossing into the box for O’Vonte Mullings. He laid the ball off to Saliou Diop, who finished to give AB a 1-0 lead after 21 minutes.

Aarhus Fremad continued trying to gain control of the match and created several counterattacks, moving quickly up the pitch. However, before they could complete their attacks, AB managed to clear the ball away. Søren Ilsøe initiated a move and found Saliou Diop, who played the ball to Milan Silva Rasmussen, but his header went wide.

Second Half

AB continued their organized play, creating several good chances. Among them, O’Vonte Mullings set up Milan Silva Rasmussen, but his shot once again went wide.

After a well-worked AB move, Milan Silva Rasmussen dribbled forward before playing the ball to O’Vonte Mullings. With a brilliant pass into the box, Mullings picked out Silva Rasmussen, who smashed the ball into the net to make it 2-0 after 60 minutes. It was Mullings’ second assist of the match—and it came on his birthday!

In the 65th minute, Jermain Fernandes came on for Casper Grening on the left wing. Noah Engell replaced Milan Silva Rasmussen up front.

Perhaps the biggest chance of the match fell to Saliou Diop, who broke through on goal and ran all the way into the penalty area, closely pursued by two Aarhus Fremad players. They managed to make a well-timed tackle and dispossess him. From the resulting corner, Gabriel Noga rose high, but his header went wide.

With just over 15 minutes remaining, Travian Sousa made his return after an extended spell out of action. He replaced Marius Stenner at left back.

Aarhus Fremad continued to see plenty of the ball, but they still struggled to create any clear-cut chances, as AB’s defense stood firm.

Tobias Hageltorn came on for O’Vonte Mullings on the right wing. With three minutes remaining in normal time, Alfred Horup replaced Marco Vesterholm in midfield. Horup had barely stepped onto the pitch before receiving a good pass and getting a shot away, but the goalkeeper dived into the corner to keep it out.

Travian Sousa also produced a good effort, but his shot went wide. In the final three minutes of stoppage time, Aarhus Fremad sent one shot narrowly wide and created another opportunity that forced Adam Benediktsson into a reflex save.

The match ended 2-0, with AB claiming all three points after an excellent team performance.

Captain Søren Ilsøe described the victory as a strong team effort: "As I said in the build-up to the match, we’ve been training really well. We’ve focused on our defensive structure, when to press and when to play through the opposition. That worked today, so it was simply a great team performance.

I think we did a lot of good things today, and if we’d managed one more pass in certain situations, we could have created many more big chances. But we were clinical today and scored from the opportunities we had. As I remember it, they only had one major chance, a header in the 88th minute.

We were well organized on the pitch and aggressive when they played into the middle and into the box. We didn’t get drawn in when they tried to rotate their positions.

We made a few adjustments at halftime to deal with the situations where they had played through us in the first half. We set up a little differently, and after that, Aarhus Fremad didn’t really create much. I felt we were closer to making it 3-0 than they were to making it 2-1. We did what we needed to do to get the three points today, and that was class,” Ilsøe concluded.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson said his players gave everything they had: "Aarhus Fremad are a really good football team. They want to control the game through possession. We knew we could punish them, as we saw with the first goal, when we won the ball quite easily and were able to attack very quickly.

It was a really difficult match, and the boys gave everything they had. Aarhus Fremad also played a good game, even though they didn’t create many chances until the end. It was an entertaining match with plenty of duels and a lot of battling, so it was a strong win for us.

Getting into the top six has been a goal for us, and now we can see that we’re well on our way to achieving it. There have been a couple of matches where we haven’t played as well, but right now we’re in a really good place, and we’ll keep fighting and pushing forward in the coming games,” Gunnólfsson concluded.

AB’s next match is away against HB Køge on Friday, October 16, 2026, with kickoff at 7:00 PM.
