AB Host Aarhus Fremad

The international break is over, which means Betinia Liga football is back at Gladsaxe Stadion.

Pre-Match Report

AB welcomes Aarhus Fremad tomorrow, Friday, October 9 at 7:00 PM.

In their final match before the international break on Saturday, September 19, AB picked up an impressive 3-0 win over Esbjerg fB. AB’s goals were scored by Saliou Diop, O’Vonte Mullings and Milan Silva Rasmussen. In the same round, Aarhus Fremad lost 3-1 to Hvidovre.

In the league table, Aarhus Fremad sit in 4th place with 13 points, while AB are in 8th place with 9 points.

AB and Aarhus Fremad have faced each other many times over the years in the 2nd Division. Now the two teams meet again, and the matches are sure to be just as exciting and closely contested in the Betinia Liga as they were in the 2nd Division.

AB earned promotion to the 1st Division after a win over Aarhus Fremad at Riisvangen on May 28, 2016, when Per Frandsen was AB’s head coach.

October 7, 2023 is certainly a date many AB fans have not forgotten. That was the match in which AB goalkeeper Albert Gaub-Jacobsen saved two penalties in just two minutes at Riisvangen Stadion during a dramatic final stage, securing a draw for AB.

The most recent meeting between the two teams came in the 2nd Division promotion playoffs in 2025. Interestingly, AB lost 2-1 at home at Gladsaxe Stadion on April 19, 2025, but responded with a 2-1 win at Riisvangen on May 24, 2025, with goals from Adrien Koudelka and Tobias Hageltorn. Aarhus Fremad were promoted to the Betinia Liga shortly afterward.

During the many matches Aarhus Fremad played against AB, the team was managed by Morten Dahm Kjærgaard, who took over as head coach of Silkeborg IF this summer.

Former assistant coach Mathias Damgaard has taken over as head coach. Damgaard has previously also served as a player-assistant coach, so this certainly isn’t his first visit to Gladsaxe Stadion.

The referee for the match is Sebastian Aagerup, with Morten Helweg Andersen and Gustav Olsen assisting him on the sidelines. Jacob Kobberrød is the fourth official.

Captain Søren Ilsøe believes the team is in a good place both mentally and physically: “During the international break, we had some time off and the opportunity to spend time with friends and family. We finished strongly before the break with a win and a good feeling, which we had talked about being really important. Since then, we have had some really good weeks of training, where we have worked on the things we felt could be improved.

We have trained really hard and intensely, and everyone has really been on it. So we are ready for the final stretch of the fall. When we look back at our games against them and look at the statistics, they are a team that really wants to have the ball. They are very good at it, and that is something we really need to be aware of. They cover a lot of ground and make a lot of rotations in their positions. So we have spent time watching them on video and preparing for that, and I feel we are in a good place both mentally and physically.”

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson says the players are rested and ready for the match:

“We are back after a long break because of the international fixtures. It is new for us because we are now playing in the 1st Division. So we decided to give the players some time off and then come back and train really hard.

We know a little about Aarhus Fremad and how they play. We know how we can hurt them. They want to control the game, so we have to make it a little uncomfortable for them so that we can take the three points.

We have had quite a few players dealing with injuries, but things are improving. So in that sense, the international break has benefited us. The players in the squad we have selected are fit and everyone is ready to step onto the pitch tomorrow.”
