AB Goes to Køge for Friday Night Clash

AB travels to Køge on Friday evening, where HB Køge will host the team at Capelli Sport Stadion.

Pre-Match Report

AB travels to Køge on Friday evening, where HB Køge will host the team at Capelli Sport Stadion.

Referee Oliver Simbold will get the match underway at 7:00 PM, assisted by Gustav Qwist Olsen and Emil Laursen on the lines. Jesper Nielsen will serve as the fourth official.

HB Køge sit 10th in the table with 10 points and, like AB, have won their last two matches. HB Køge beat Hobro 5-2 at home before claiming a 2-0 victory away to Vendsyssel last weekend.

AB sit just above them in seventh place with 12 points. The team head into the match full of confidence after a 3-0 win over Esbjerg fB and a 2-0 victory against Aarhus Fremad.

Friday’s match will be played on artificial turf, and AB have therefore trained on the surface during the week in preparation. Everything points to an exciting and closely contested match in Køge on Friday evening.

Looking Back

On January 24, 2026, AB played HB Køge in a friendly at a bitterly cold Capelli Sport Stadion during the preseason build-up. The match ended 3-3, with Jonathan Mathys scoring twice for AB and Emil Mygind Jensen adding the third goal.

One of HB Køge’s goals was scored by former AB player Tobias Thomsen. He remains a dangerous striker in HB Køge’s attack, so AB will need to keep a close eye on him. The last time the two teams met in a competitive fixture was back in the spring of 2017, when the match ended 0-0 at Køge Stadion in the Danish First Division.

Aidan Liu is confident ahead of Friday’s match: “I have a good feeling about tomorrow’s game. Of course, we prefer a normal grass pitch, but we’ve also trained on artificial turf as part of our preparations. We’re in a good spell, and the atmosphere is really good, so we’re ready for anything.

We’ve talked a lot about winning as a team, and I think we showed that in our last match. We worked for each other, covered the necessary ground, defended well and were clinical in attack. If we keep doing the same things and maintain that level of effort, we have a good chance of winning.

As long as we play as a team, stay focused and fight throughout the entire match, I believe we can beat many teams in this league—and that’s the plan for tomorrow,” said Aidan Liu.

Liu played for HB Køge’s U19 team during the 2019–20 season, when AB assistant coach Benjamin Chor was his coach.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson is hoping for another strong performance: “Since our last match, we’ve worked on our game plan and had a few training sessions on artificial turf. We haven’t focused on it too much, because sometimes we play on a good grass pitch and sometimes on a less good one—and tomorrow, it will be artificial turf. We need to be comfortable playing on all types of surfaces, and the players are well prepared.

I’m looking forward to seeing us continue to build and take more steps forward after our good performance against Aarhus Fremad. We made some mistakes, but we also did a lot of good things in that match.

We’re facing a similar type of opponent tomorrow, so we hope it will be another good performance from us.

HB Køge missed a few matches at the start of the season, but they’ve bounced back well and won their last two games. They have a lot of experience in the squad, with players who have competed at a high level. So we’re facing a very good team tomorrow,” concludes Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson.
