AB Gladsaxe played on Friday evening their fourth of 10 matches in the promotion round in the CampoBet Liga. It was an away game against FC Roskilde, and AB won 3-2 with goals from Noah Engell, Milan Silva Rasmussen and Casper Grening.
As expected, it was a tough and even match. AB had most of the play, but throughout the game FC Roskilde were constantly dangerous on the counter. AB went behind twice, but showed tremendous team spirit and a huge effort to come out on top. The match was watched by 569 spectators, with a lot of AB fans in the away section and in the stands.

AB’s starting XI
For the third match in a row, AB’s coaching staff chose the same starting XI as against Vendsyssel FF and Næstved. In goal: Adam Ingi Benediktsson; right back: Tobias Damtoft; centre backs: Adrien Koudelka and Marc Dal Hende (captain); left back: Travian Sousa; midfield: Marco Vesterholm and Søren Ilsøe. On the left wing: Jonathan Mathys, and on the right wing: O´Vonte Mullings. Up front: Milan Silva Rasmussen and Noah Engell.

Match report
AB applied heavy pressure from the start and took control of the game. After just 3 minutes, Marco Vesterholm had a big chance when the ball from a corner fell to him, but unfortunately Roskilde’s goalkeeper, Alexander Hasmark Jensen, made the save.
Roskilde sat deep and did well to clear the ball and disrupt AB’s play in the final third. But it became dangerous when Roskilde broke forward on the counter. Even though AB had a couple of good opportunities, it was Roskilde’s Bjarni Adalsteinsson who, after 29 minutes, fired off a good shot and, against the run of play and chances, put Roskilde 1-0 up. Up to that point AB had had a few attempts on Roskilde’s goal, but none were on target. As in previous matches, though, it took only 2 minutes: Jonathan Mathys played the ball to Noah Engell, who cut inside and finished into the near corner to make it 1-1.

Roskilde were still ready to counter and deliver good balls into the box, where Adrian Koudelka, Marc Dal Hende and Tobias Damtoft headed clear and dealt with at least three dangerous situations.
It was a difficult spell, and it also ended with another Roskilde goal when the ball was played back and Mads Carlson hit a powerful shot into the far corner to make it 2-1. AB got back into the game and pushed hard for an equaliser before the break.

At the start of the second half, Casper Grening came on and replaced an injured Noah Engell in the same attacking position. Roskilde were still set up to live off counter-attacks. They nearly made it work again as they broke with several players forward, but Adrien Koudelka, Marc Dal Hende and Søren Ilsøe combined well to break up the attack.
A couple of minutes later it was AB’s turn to counter, and Milan Silva Rasmussen took the chance from well outside the box and struck a really good shot at Roskilde’s goal. The shot flew high into the net and the equaliser for 2-2 was a reality.
Frederik Lindgaard came on and replaced Tobias Damtoft at right back. Alfred Horup took over Søren Ilsøe’s place in midfield.
As always, there was plenty of pace out wide, but today it didn’t really lead to the really big, decisive chances from those positions.
After 66 minutes, Roskilde had a throw-in that ended up deep in the box, where a Roskilde player rose really high, but fortunately headed over. Around 10 minutes later, Jonathan Mathys played Casper Grening through with a brilliant pass. He ran with three Roskilde players chasing him all the way from his own half to Roskilde’s box, where he put the ball in the net for a 3-2 lead, with no chance for Roskilde’s goalkeeper.
Mikkel Brund came on at left back and replaced Travian Sousa. A few minutes later, Tobias Lykkebak came on and replaced Milan Silva Rasmussen.

It was a real defensive battle, where everyone left their mark on the game. The team fought hard, and despite a physical match with lots of duels, AB avoided picking up yellow cards. So no one is suspended for the next match. The game ended 3-2 after a very disciplined and strong performance from the whole team.

Captain Marc Dal Hende says it’s our strong mentality that gets us through: “Three points on a tough away ground. I think we put everything we have into it. I think we try to play with our high press for most of the match, and we partly succeeded with that.
A tight, entertaining game that swung back and forth, I think. As a defender, I’m not happy when it swings back and forth like that. Roskilde were good on transitions – they sat back and waited. I remember the last time we played here, they also sat back and waited, hit us on transitions and we lost. So I was a bit tired that we fell into that trap again. There were too many Roskilde transitions in the first half.”
We’ve simply got quality up front with Engell, Grening and Milan, who scored fantastic goals today. It just shows we’ve got a really good mentality in the squad when we can bring home a win like that.
Overall, we’re probably the dominant team, but I think Roskilde really took the game to us. We adjust our high press during the match. Our forwards were good in the pressing game up front, but Roskilde were also good at playing through it via their number six and using the opposite wingback. So instead of pressing all the time, we did it a bit less. In the first half we pressed high all the time and Roskilde were good at playing out of it — so we tried to adjust that.
It’s a pleasure to see how our defenders are playing at the moment. Of course we’re disappointed to concede two goals — we haven’t done that in many matches this season. But three lovely points tonight,” Marc Dal Hende concludes.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson never doubted the win despite going behind twice: “It was a tough match, because Roskilde played a really good game today, and we had to work for everything. I told the boys after the match that I’m really proud of them. We needed everyone to put in tackles and for the passing to be good. It was a great win. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a win where we had to fight for it until the very last second.
In the second half, I think we got control of it. We were behind twice, but the players know what qualities and abilities we have together in the squad, so they always believe that if we work really hard, we’re just one press away from creating a chance. I never doubted we’d come back into the game and score the decisive goal,” Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson concludes.

The next match will be played on Friday 8 May 2026 at 6:00 PM against Thisted FC at Sparekassen Thy Arena.
