Once AB, Always AB – Emil Mygind Retires

Akademisk Boldklub announced that forward Emil Mygind has decided to retire from football.

"It has been an incredibly difficult decision and something I've been thinking about for a long time. Football and AB have meant so much to me and my family over the past 14 years. Both as a footballer and as a person, I've grown up here at this wonderful club, and along the way I've had so many incredible experiences and made lifelong friends and connections.

For the past four years, I've been studying at university alongside football, and I've reached a point in my life where I want to dedicate myself fully to that and see where it can take me. I've finally found peace with this decision, and it comes at the right time for me because I'm in a really good place both physically and mentally. So even though it's scary and it will feel strange at first, I'm incredibly proud of and happy with the decision I've made, and I'm excited to begin a new chapter in my life.

I want to say a huge thank you to all my teammates, coaches, and everyone in and around the club over the years—and, of course, to all of our amazing fans! It has been a tremendous privilege and honor to be part of and play for AB, and I will miss you all more than words can say. I will always be grateful for what this club has done for me—not only as a footballer, but, most importantly, as a person.

Although this is goodbye to my life as a football player, I'm certain it won't be goodbye to AB. I'm sure our paths will cross again in one way or another. AB is the club that holds my heart and has been such a big part of my life," said Mygind.

Mygind, 26, finishes his career having made 100 appearances for the first team, scoring 17 goals and 2 assists. He made his debut league appearance for AB on April 7, 2018 vs Lyseng.

"Myg is a truly special person in our dressing room. As a coach, it's rare to come across a player who, despite suffering serious injuries that keep him sidelined for long periods, still manages to play such an important role within the squad.

Myg is one of those players who has made it a joy to come to work every day, and the mentality and culture he has helped build in our dressing room is something we'll continue to be grateful for long into the future," said Head Coach Berg Gunnólfsson.

Myg was a product of the AB youth academy since childhood. He made 52 appearances for the AB U19s, scoring 23 times.

“Myg has been a special player for us during his time at AB,” said Sporting Director Jen Chang. “He truly loves the club and is one of the players we look towards to set the culture and mentality in our locker room. His professionalism and work ethic is always outstanding and his good nature will be missed by all of us. We were not expecting Myg to retire, but we understand his reasons and we wish him all the best with his next steps. There will always be an open door for Myg at AB.:
