AB’s Longest Away Trip Takes Us to Hjørring

AB travels to Hjørring on Sunday, August 16, 2026, for the team’s longest away trip in the Betinia Liga. It will be the team’s fourth match of the season, with Vendsyssel FF waiting at Nord Energi Arena.

Referee Nanna Løf Mørch Lindby will get the match underway at 2:00 PM. She will be assisted by Anna Kjær Schmidt and Morten Bach Jepsen on the lines, with Allan Staal serving as fourth official.

These are two teams that know each other very well. Both were promoted from last season’s 2. Division, where they faced each other four times. AB won both matches in the regular season, while the teams met twice in the promotion playoff. Each team won once away from home.

Vendsyssel FF won 2–0 at Gladsaxe Stadion on Saturday, April 18, 2026. AB responded by taking all three points from Nord Energi Arena on Sunday, May 17, 2026, with a 2–1 victory. AB’s goals were scored by Tobias Hageltorn and Søren Ilsøe.

Like AB, Vendsyssel FF have picked up two points from their first three matches in the Betinia Liga. Vendsyssel opened the season away against Hvidovre, drawing 2–2 after a difficult start that saw them trail 2–0 at halftime. They fought their way back and, with a little more luck, could have taken all three points.

In their second match, Vendsyssel lost 2–1 at home to Hobro IK. Most recently, they earned a valuable point away against FC Fredericia, with the match ending 1–1. Vendsyssel played with 10 men after Benjamin Clemensen was shown a red card early in the second half, meaning he will miss the match against AB.

AB head into the match following a bitter defeat to Hobro IK last weekend, when AB lost 1–0 in Hobro. It was a match that, based on the performance and chances created, should have resulted in points. Of course, that requires the strong possession and numerous chances to be converted into goals — otherwise, it becomes difficult!

Noah Engell says AB need to be more clinical:

“There were many good things in the match against Hobro, but we just didn't manage to get the ball over the line. It was a tough feeling, so now we want to go out and win against Vendsyssel.

It’s a team we know well. It will probably be a physical match, and they have some individual qualities that we need to be prepared for. They play with a big striker, and there are usually a lot of battles and plenty of intensity. If we bring that intensity, we can definitely beat them.

There was a bit of a down mood after the Hobro match, but we’ve moved on quickly. It’s only one game out of many, and that’s football. We need to get used to being more clinical because even though we played a good game in Hobro last time, we didn’t bring anything home with us. That’s something different from what we’ve been used to.”

Assistant coach Jussi Kontinen is looking for more determination in the final third:

“Vendsyssel are a good team. We’ve lost to them, but we’ve also beaten them three times, and we won the league ahead of them. We’ve started the season well with two draws against the relegated teams, and then unfortunately we lost last time, where I didn’t think we were targeted enough.

Since the match in Hobro, we’ve worked on the details in the areas where we weren’t sharp enough, and we’ve reminded ourselves and each other who we are and what our strengths are. We’ve focused on what we are really good at.

There was a lack of decisiveness and hunger to get into the box. There were many really good things in the match, but we need a little more hunger to get into the box — that’s something we need to bring with us. When you’ve lost a match, the players are very eager to get a win. They don’t want to lose two matches in a row. The team is very good at bouncing back, and during my time here we haven’t lost two matches in a row.

We are well prepared, and with the mentality our players have, we believe we can make the game go our way and also go up there and take all three points.”
