AB Hunts for 3 Points in Hillerød

AB faces Hillerød Fodbold tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, 2026. Hillerød Fodbold have moved back to Hillerød Stadion. For an extended period, they played their home matches in Farum and Helsingør, but Hillerød Stadion now meets the requirements set by the Danish League Association.

Referee Frida Klarlund will get the match underway at 13:00. The assistant referees are Shpend Shala and Iman Huseen, while Magnus Dilling will serve as the fourth official.

Hillerød Fodbold currently sit 10th in the Betinia Liga with five points, most recently drawing 1–1 away to HB Køge. Hillerød have been stronger in terms of points at home and won their most recent home match 3–1 against Hobro IK.

AB have lost their last two matches, 2–1 away to Kolding IF and most recently 2–0 at Gladsaxe Stadion against AaB. AB put in a solid performance against AaB, but two set pieces decided the match — a direct free kick and a penalty. AB currently sit 8th with six points.

Everything points to a close and exciting match between two teams chasing points and who will be desperate to avoid another defeat. AB experienced that firsthand the last time the team played at Hillerød Stadion in May 2022, when Hillerød Fodbold won 1–0 in the 2nd Division.

Hillerød Fodbold head coach Christian Lønstrup is highly experienced, with an impressive career as both a player and coach. He made more than 250 appearances and won four Danish championships with FCK. In 2005, he joined AB from FCK as a player-assistant coach and continued playing in midfield. In July 2013, he returned to AB as assistant coach to Thomas Nørgaard, who was head coach at the time.

Milan Silva Rasmussen says the team will approach the match with courage and heart: “I think we should always expect ourselves to go out there and give 100% and put them under good pressure. Hillerød are good on the ball, which suits us because we’re good at putting teams under heavy pressure. We’re coming with courage and heart — and hopefully plenty of goals.

We haven’t scored that many goals recently, and that’s football — it happens to every team. The important thing is that you can see the team is trying, and the goals will come. We need to be a forward-thinking team that takes responsibility and takes pride in our attacking play. Of course, I hope we see that tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s match is one we obviously want to win. We have a standard for ourselves, and to be completely honest, it could have been better at the start of the season. But that doesn’t take anything away from our confidence or our belief in what we’re doing. We’re one of the better teams in the league, so we have to go out there and prove it.

It’s only two matches we’ve lost, so the mood is still high, and we work hard in every training session to improve.

The season is very long, so this is a marathon, not a sprint. I also think we’ve been good at handling that. It’s a new level, and there are several things we need to get used to. It’s inevitable that, as a football team, you’re going to lose matches.

The most important thing is that we don’t feel sorry for ourselves, because that’s when things can really start to go wrong. So chest out and keep going, no matter what!”

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson says AB need to be more threatening and clinical. "On Saturday, we face Hillerød, and I think it will be an interesting match. Hillerød normally play 4-4-2. They like to play across the pitch and also look for passes in behind the defence. They have a couple of good forwards who they want to supply with plenty of passes.

We have a plan for how we’re going to neutralize that. They want to be in control during their build-up play, and they’re happy to drop their midfielders back into the defensive line during the build-up. We need to figure out how we can press them and disrupt their play.

We’ve been disappointed recently because we haven’t finished our attacks with shots that could lead to goals. We’re one of the teams with the most touches in the penalty area, but when it comes to shots, we’re fourth from the bottom. We’re getting ourselves into fantastic positions, but we’re not finishing them in the best way. We’ve worked a lot on changing that, and we need to be more threatening and more consistent," said Head Coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson
