AB finally returns to Gladsaxe Stadium tomorrow, Friday 26 March at 7:00 PM.
After playing their last two home matches at Brøndby Stadium, Gladsaxe Stadium is opening its doors again.
It will be a top-of-the-table clash in the CampoBet Liga as AB host FC Roskilde, who sit in 3rd place with 35 points. AB have 45 points and lead the league – so it’s a so-called six-pointer.
AB have made a really strong start to the spring season and have won the first three matches – most recently 5–1 against Ishøj IF.
FC Roskilde are expected to be the toughest opponent so far this spring. It was also FC Roskilde who handed AB their heaviest defeat of the season. That happened on 12 September, when AB were sent home from Roskilde Idrætspark with a 4–1 loss.
It was a night to forget, as it was never AB’s match. It was a clear off day where not much worked, and there was no cohesion or consistency in the play. Friday’s match must therefore be one where the AB players will be very keen to get revenge.
FC Roskilde suffered an unexpected defeat in their latest match, losing 1–0 at home in Roskilde to FC Helsingør.
Referee Jacob Stausgaard Kobberrød will take charge, with Poul Nyberg and Søren Lehmann on the lines.
AB are without Marco Vesterholm due to suspension. FC Roskilde have no suspended players.
Marcus Immersen is back in the squad. The same goes for Søren Ilsøe, who has served his suspension.
Jonathan Mathys says the team builds energy by winning: “It’ll be a top match between two top teams with lots of quality, and both will do everything to get the three points. I think we’re in a really good place. We came into the spring season and now we’ve got 3 wins from 3 matches – and of course we’re chasing win number four!
We’ve got revenge to take from the first match against Roskilde, and I think we’ve become stronger as a team and improved. So I’m very positive about the match tomorrow. I think it’ll be a really good game. We’re back at Gladsaxe Stadium and it feels great. I hope lots of people come and support us so we can kick off the spring here at Gladsaxe Stadium in the right way.
We put the last defeat against Roskilde behind us already in the very next match. We played HIK away and won 4–0, so we haven’t thought about the Roskilde game since.
Of course it’ll be a different opponent we’re up against. They came down from the 1st Division last season, and they’ll do everything to go back up. So we’re facing a team that’s played at a higher level, and they have a lot of individual quality.
We’ve got a really good squad and we get on really well together. There’s good energy in every training session and match. The energy also comes, of course, from winning games – and that’s what we want to keep doing tomorrow,” Jonathan Mathys concludes.
Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson is looking forward to playing at home: “The players are really motivated ahead of the match against Roskilde. We’re back on home turf, and I hope our fans will help us and sing us to victory. In the last match they sang and cheered throughout the game – it was really lovely. When I watched the match later, I had the sound on – I don’t usually – but I enjoyed the great atmosphere our fans created.
The players know what we need to do and what we’re up against. We can lose to any team if we don’t do our job properly. There’s quality in every team in this division. Roskilde have top-class players who can punish us for the smallest mistake. Roskilde are in a situation where they have to win. They have Næstved and Vendsyssel in the next two matches and then we go into the promotion round.
Every match is a final for them, so they’ll come with huge determination because they need points. Our players are fully aware of that, but we’re also capable of staying composed and not overreacting.
We have a lot of experience in the dressing room and we’ve played many matches together. We know it’s not Friday’s match that decides whether we win the division. It’s one of 32 matches. We know Roskilde will come into the game aggressively – they lost to Helsingør last weekend, and they’ll come to wipe the slate clean and fight for their chance to win,” Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson concludes.
The squad for the match is:
