On Friday evening, AB hosted Næstved at Gladsaxe Stadium. The match was important for the league standings, so everything was set for an exciting game. The atmosphere was fantastic, with 957 spectators in attendance.
AB got back to winning ways as the team beat the league leaders from Næstved 3-0.

After a brilliant, well-played first half, AB went into the break 3-0 up thanks to goals from Jonathan Mathys, who scored twice, and Milan Silva Rasmussen. That puts Jonathan Mathys alone at the top of the 2nd Division top scorer’s list in the 2nd Division promotion round.

AB’s starting XI
AB’s coaching staff made no changes to today’s starting lineup compared to the most recent match against Vendsyssel FF, so the lineup was the same against Næstved. In goal was Adam Ingi Benediktsson; at right back Tobias Damtoft; in central defence Adrien Koudelka and Marc Dal Hende (captain); at left back Travian Sousa; in midfield Marco Vesterholm and Søren Ilsøe. On the left wing Jonathan Mathys and on the right wing O´Vonte Mullings. Up front were Milan Silva Rasmussen and Noah Engell.

Match report
Unlike last weekend’s match against Vendsyssel FF, AB showed different energy, physical presence and good football. AB pressed Næstved all over the pitch from the start. It was actually Næstved who had the first chance of the match from a free kick after just a minute, but Adam Ingi Benediktsson got down quickly and made a good save.
After that, AB had much of the play and were in control of the match. A better pitch than in the most recent match against Vendsyssel made it possible for AB to play quicker and with more precise combination play.
Næstved were dangerous on the counter, working their way up the pitch especially down the left. After a cross into the box, Adrien Koudelka put pressure on, the ball bounced around on the goal line and eventually fell to Jonathan Mathys, who made it 1-0. Just four minutes later, Milan Silva Rasmussen dribbled in from the right across the middle and played a perfect pass to Jonathan Mathys, who doubled the lead to 2-0 with a crisp finish into the near corner.

Søren Ilsøe won the ball in midfield and nudged it on to O’Vonte Mullings. He quickly played it out to the right to Tobias Damsgaard, who shot at goal. Næstved goalkeeper Albert Gaub-Jakobsen couldn’t hold on to the ball, and Milan Silva Rasmussen made it 3-0 after 27 minutes. Just before the half-time whistle, Næstved won a free kick on the left, but Adam Ingi Benediktsson dealt with it. There was great support for the team, who were applauded off the pitch as they headed into the dressing room.

After the break, Næstved came out with renewed energy and fought for their chance. They had more and more of the ball and at times showed what a good footballing side they are. AB dropped deeper and defended really well. Marc Dal Hende marshalled the troops superbly, and his shouts could be heard in the stands.

All in all, Adam Ingi Benediktsson put in a rock-solid performance. He dealt with the efforts that came in from Næstved, and he also produced fantastic saves in two situations where Næstved had a player completely free.
After 65 minutes, Casper Grening replaced Jonathan Mathys on the left wing. At the same time, Travian Sousa went off and Frederik Lindgaard came on at right back, while Tobias Damtoft moved over to left back.
Tobias Hageltorn came on and took Noah Engell’s place up front.

Marco Vesterholm stopped a quick break with a very long, powerful run, and eventually won the ball off the player close to the byline and goal. Earlier in the match, Adrien Koudelka had also headed the ball away from an unmarked player. Alfred Horup replaced Søren Ilsøe in midfield. Tobias Damtoft took a seat on the bench and Mikkel Brund took over at left back. In the final part of the match, Milan Silva Rasmussen had the chance to score when he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he just missed out.

Captain Marc Dal Hende says there was power all the way through:
“I think you can split it up a bit. Our first half might be one of the best performances we’ve delivered this season. Næstved don’t get a chance to breathe. We’re just all over them everywhere, and our front players work absolutely insanely hard—so huge credit to them. It makes defending a lot easier.
In the second half, we have to defend a 3-0 lead. Næstved come more into it, and even on a difficult pitch they’re a good footballing side. So credit to them, and credit to Adam in goal, who once again makes insane saves. A fantastic team performance again.

Even though we didn’t win that many second balls, we were comfortable. All in all, a complete performance, and I’m very proud that the boys clearly took a step in the right direction today. We always want to bounce back, especially after a not very good performance against Vendsyssel. Today we showed the physicality that I think we lacked against Vendsyssel. Power all the way through, and that makes the work easier for us in defense.

Playing at Gladsaxe Stadium with that support is just class and a real pleasure. The pitch was significantly better today, and our groundsmen at the stadium do a huge job and work incredibly hard—so massive respect to them. So all in all, we’re back on track,” Marc Dal Hende concludes.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson is very proud and impressed:
“I can’t be anything but very proud and impressed with the players’ performance today. We weren’t happy after our last match, so the players knew they had more to give. They came out and gave what it took today. Næstved are a good football team, and if you give them time on the ball—we did that a couple of times in the first half—and we saw how quickly they could play through us. Næstved couldn’t cope with the energy and power the players put into the match. It was a fantastic game.

Adam Ingi Benediktsson had a fantastic match and kept a clean sheet. He has performed well over the past couple of months. Jonathan Mathys scored two goals and also did impressive defensive work for the team. The back line stood firm, and Adrien Koudelka and Marc Dal Hende tucked in centrally and managed to stop Næstved’s attackers.
All the players were really on it today—wherever I looked, they were brave and fought. The midfield pairing of Søren Ilsøe and Marco Vesterholm was top class—I expect a lot from them, and they really delivered today. In every position there’s only positive things to say. We played a really good match in the way we want to play, with a very strong performance,” Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson concludes.

The next match will be played on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 7:00 PM against FC Roskilde at Roskilde Idrætspark.
