AB win the 2nd Division after a 5–0 victory over HIK

In front of 1,041 spectators, AB won the 2nd Division title at home on Friday evening and can now look forward to lifting the trophy in the final match against Thisted FC on Saturday, 6 June 2026 at 2:00 PM at Gladsaxe Stadium.
First place was safely secured after an impressive 5–0 win over neighbors HIK. AB led 4–0 at half-time with goals from Jonathan Mathys, Travian Sousa, Noah Engell and Milan Silva Rasmussen. In the second half, Noah Engell added another goal.

The coaching staff made just one change for today’s match against HIK compared to the game against Vendsyssel. Jeppe Gertsen started at right-back instead of Frederik Lindgaard.

The starting XI was as follows
In goal: Adam Ingi Benediktsson; right-back: Jeppe Gertsen; centre-backs: Adrien Koudelka and Marc Dal Hende (captain); left-back: Travian Sousa; midfield: Marco Vesterholm and Søren Ilsøe. On the left wing: Jonathan Mathys, and on the right wing: O´Vonte Mullings. Up front, Milan Silva Rasmussen and Noah Engell played.

Goals and match summary
AB came into the match with great energy and fighting spirit. AB pressed hard and play was mostly in HIK’s half. AB played quick combinations and used the full width of the pitch. Only 3 minutes had passed when Noah Engell, on the left side, played in behind the defence and into the box for Jonathan Mathys, but the finish went just wide of the post. A few minutes later it was O’Vonte Mullings who played Travian Sousa into the box, but again it only resulted in a shot just wide of the post. AB goalkeeper Adam Ingi Benediktsson—who, incidentally, didn’t have much to do in today’s match—sent a long goal kick all the way up to Jonathan Mathys, who sprinted towards goal, but the finish was saved by HIK goalkeeper Magnus Lynge Haslund.
Noah Engell dribbled all the way to the byline and cut the ball back to Milan, who unfortunately fired over the bar. Only 10 minutes had been played and there had already been 4 clear chances—but then the goals started coming. Milan Silva Rasmussen drove towards goal down the left and delivered a fine cross into the box for Jonathan Mathys—he threw himself at the ball and made it 1–0 after 21 minutes.

HIK were pinned deep, but then got a chance when they broke forward quickly, only for the ball to be cleared away.

Søren Ilsøe swung a cross into the box, but Jonathan Mathys was a second too late. A minute later, Noah Engell took a corner and placed it so well that Travian Sousa could head the ball into the net to make it 2–0. The goal was celebrated with the ball under the shirt and a thumb in the mouth—so we know what’s on the way!

Then it really sped up. After 34 minutes, Jonathan Mathys was brought down right in front of goal just a few metres outside the penalty area. Noah Engell took the free kick and the ball ended up in the net, with no chance for Magnus Lynge Haslund, to make it 3–0. Just 2 minutes later, O’Vonte Mullings worked his magic past HIK’s defenders and, while everyone thought he would pass to the right, he played it to the left, where Milan Silva Rasmussen arrived and calmly made it 4–0. HIK got a counter-attack and ran quickly and directly towards AB’s goal, but Adrien Koudelka went on a long sprint, caught up with him and put in a perfect tackle on the ball.

In the second half, the goal rush wasn’t quite as intense, but AB still played at pace and often pinned HIK back. After 61 minutes, Casper Grening came on and took over the left wing from Jonathan Mathys. Tobias Hageltorn took over up front from Milan Silva Rasmussen. The next substitution came 8 minutes later, when Alfred Horup replaced Jeppe Gertsen at right-back. Ten minutes later, Noah Engell received a good pass from Tobias Hageltorn and, from a tight angle, made it 5–0.
In the final 10 minutes, Alfred Horup had a chance to score after joining the attack, but his effort went over the bar. Tobias Lykkebak came on and took over Marco Vesterholm’s spot in midfield. Anton Boye from the U19 team came on and made his debut, putting in a good cameo at left-back after taking over from Travian Sousa.

There were still plenty of chances. Tobias Hageltorn broke forward quickly, but his finish went wide. Tobias Lykkebak missed a big chance, and Casper Grening’s effort went wide of the goal.
The defence was once again outstanding and cleared everything that came their way. The midfield and wingers were in constant motion, and overall it was a superb performance from the entire team.

Captain Marc Dal Hende is looking forward to lifting the trophy: “It was a relief today. We had a match point against Roskilde and HIK helped us with their win over Næstved that same evening, and then promotion was secured. That so many came to our match today here at Gladsaxe Stadium, and that we can give them the 2nd Division title, that’s just a relief.
Pretty quickly in the match you could feel that we were on top of it, and it was only a matter of time before we broke through. What makes me happy is that we just keep making the chances bigger. We have two lads who are right at the top of the top-scorers list. Competition can start in no time, but those two make each other better and that makes me really happy. It just makes them extra dangerous.
It’s not always easy to keep the tempo when you’ve decided the match early. I think we kept going, doing everything we could to score more goals. We shut things down when we make a few slips here and there. Fantastic – and I also want to highlight Adam, who’s had a fantastic season and has been selected for the Icelandic national team.
There have been an incredible number of great performances in the team. A trophy has to be lifted at the end, and that’s something we really care about and are looking forward to. We were a little down when Vendsyssel beat us at home. But then we just hit the accelerator again and go and beat them on their home ground.
I’m incredibly proud of the spring we’ve put together. It’s not just the players, it’s also the staff – we’re a tight-knit group. It’s a great journey we’re going on together with our fans,” Marc Dal Hende concludes.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson is also focused on the final two matches: “We came into the match very strongly and we dominated from the start. Once again, we showed what a strong mentality there is in the squad. It’s easier to play football when you’re successful and you might become a bit too satisfied. Our players are so mentally strong and we take steps forward every single day, so they keep working hard. They’re not satisfied until the match is won.
We now have two matches to play that won’t change our position, but those matches still mean a lot to us. That’s why we’ll only celebrate promotion and the 2nd Division title on 6 June after the final match. We have Næstved next week, and we’re going there to get the 3 points. Then we finish at home against Thisted, and we intend to win that one too. So we’re not done, and we want to finish the season in the best possible way.
We know there’s a short time until we play our first match in the 1st Division, so we have to be ready. We have 6 weeks once we’re done, so we’ll ease off a bit after the last match and then ramp it up again,” Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson concludes.
