AB Gladsaxe played a friendly match against Helsingborgs IF today at Gladsaxe Stadium. The last friendly match was against FC Roskilde, and it ended 1-1. For that match, the coaching staff had chosen two teams, each playing a half. Today’s match was played with a starting line-up and with the remaining match squad on the bench.
The game ended 2-0 to AB on goals by Milan Silva Rasmussen in the first half and Søren Ilsøe in the second half after a cross from Casper Grening on the corner.

It was a really hot afternoon game, where there was also a water break in each half.

Despite the heat, there was a good atmosphere in the stands, not least from Helsingborgs IF’s many travelling fans. Helsingborgs IF plays in the Swedish Superettan, which is not far from the Danish 1st division in terms of level.

AB’s starting line-up
On goal: Adam Benediktsson, Frederik Lindgaard at right back, Noah Ibsen together with Marc Dal Hende in central defence. Tobias Damtoft at left back and Søren Ilsøe and Alfred Horup in midfield. Jonathan Mathys on the left wing, Marcus Immersen and Milan Silva Rasmussen in front and O’Vonte Mullings on the right wing.

Match Report
From the start of the game, AB pressed high up in Helsingborg’s half of the field and set an aggressive play that pressured them. A tremendous pressure from Marcus Immersen and the opportunity for crosses resulted in a corner kick. The corner kick ended up at Milan Silva Rasmussen’s foot, and this time he did not take his known move over the middle, but finished outside the box. It was 1-0 after 2 minutes, and the ball sat perfectly in the top corner.
AB played despite the heat at a good pace and the combinations were mostly in the closet.
The referees followed the new international line, for example when it comes to free kicks. In several situations, this led to tackles and pushes that the teams did not seem to be used to. However, they quickly found their way into the referee line.

Only after half an hour did Helsingborg come up with a couple of good finishes, but AB’s defense blocked the shots that Helsingborg sent off each time. AB had several opportunities, where the biggest opportunity came when Jonathan Mathys was left alone with Helsingborg’s goalkeeper, who averted the situation with a good save.
Milan Silva Rasmussen did not pass the ball to a teammate, but lost it, so a Helsingborg player could intercept it and sprint towards goal. His finish was nicely blocked by Adam Benediktsson after Milan Silva Rasmussen had come back and pressed the Swedish player.

From the start of the second half, Casper Grening and Tobias Hageltorn came on the field instead of Milan Silva Rasmussen and Marcus Immersen. Casper Grening and Tobias Hageltorn were laid right up front – at least as a starting point. Because as usual, the attacking players moved around a lot between the wings and the front attackers, who could also pull down to midfield. Just 6 minutes after the start of the 2nd half, Tobias Hageltorn passed to Søren Ilsøe, who in the middle of the goal took the chance and shot a really good shot – unfortunately close to the Swedish goal.
12 minutes into the second half, Tobias Lykkebak came on the field and so did Emil Mygind (Myg). Myg replaced O’Vonte Mullings in the attack and Tobias Lykkebak took over the midfield spot next to Søren Ilsøe. Alfred Horup was put down on Frederik Lindgaard’s right back, who took a seat on the bench.
Shortly after, Adam Benediktsson got on a rare middle hand when he went out wrong. The Swedish finish could have ended in a goal, but the ball ended up on the crossbar. After 18 minutes, Mikkel Brund took over as a stopper from Marc Dal Hende. U19 player Engelbert Owusu replaced Tobias Damtoft at left back.

Casper Grening received a nice pass on the edge of the box from Søren Ilsøe. Casper Grening ran away from his keeper, but his shot was deflected and rolled over the back line. The subsequent corner kick gave AB 3 finishes before the ball was in the goal for a 2-0 lead. It was difficult to see who the goalscorer was. However, match footage of the goal shows that Søren Ilsøe’s finish via the post went over the line, and the assistant referee raised the flag and marked for goal before Tobias Hageltorn could put his foot on the ball.

After 26 minutes of play in the second half, Noah Engell, who had been slightly injured before the game, came on the field. Jonathan Mathys got a well-deserved rest on the bench.

Noah Ibsen played a fine game in central defence and it looked like he could be the one to replace the long-term injured Adrien Koudelka. Noah Ibsen was replaced by Villum Stokbro, who thus got his first playing minutes at Gladsaxe Stadium. So did Mikkel Clement, who made a good jump in and replaced the always hard-working Søren Ilsøe in midfield.
The game ended with a 2-0 victory, and even though Helsingborg came more into the game towards the end of the 2nd half, there was no doubt that AB would win.

After the game, head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson said: “It was very difficult to play football in the heat, and the last five minutes the players were completely flat. It was a good game. Both teams came with lots of energy and delivered a good effort. I felt we had full control over everything they created. We could have scored more goals. We were ahead 2-0 and we did what it took to win the game. It was a big goal for us that we could do that. Our young players came in and did really well. So I am very happy with the match in all areas.

In defence, we were absolutely fantastic. Helsingborg played a really good 1st half, but we were just so strong that we could keep them away from our goal. We won balls in dangerous areas, our pressure was good and strong, and even in the heat today, we are able to play at a high pace. In our attacking play, we circled around a bit with the players and tried to get the upper hand so that we could attack there.

We are constantly trying out the different things and developing the team step by step, and thus we become stronger as a team. This means that we can play well, even if we have to do without a few players. Overall, I am very satisfied with the game and the good result”, concludes Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson.
