AB played today at a bitterly cold Capelli Sport Stadium against HB Køge in their 2nd training match before the season starts on March 7, 2026. Despite the freezing cold, the many spectators, including a fine turnout for AB, enjoyed a good training match.
The match ended 3-3 with goals by:
1-0 Tobias Thomsen
2-0 Alfred Gøthler
2-1 Jonathan Mathys
2-2 Jonathan Mathys
2-3 Emil Mygind Jensen
3-3 Lukas Achton
Just like in last week’s training match against FA 2000, AB fielded two different teams in each half. Only Marc Dal Hende and Alfred Horup played one and a half halves.
Overall, it was a really good training match between two teams that wanted to move forward on the pitch and were offensively minded. AB created a number of scoring opportunities throughout the match, and HB Køge also had their chances. The result of 3-3 was a fair reflection of the match.
AB’s lineup in the 1st half
In goal, Adam Benediktson, right back Frederik Lindgaard, in central defense Marc Dal Hende and Jeppe Gertsen, left back Anton Boye, and in midfield Ægir Jarl Jónasson and Alfred Horup. On the left wing Casper Grening and on the right wing O’Vonte Mullings. Up front played Noah Engell and Marcus Immersen.
AB kicked off the match and already in the first attack there was a chance for a quick goal, but the finish went over the goal. A few minutes later, Noah Engell sent a good cross towards Marcus Immersen in the box, but he didn’t reach the ball.
HB Køge sent a long pass to an offensive player, who got around AB’s goalkeeper and got a shot off. However, he had come too far out, and when he got the shot off, Adam Ingi Benediktsson was in place and parried it for a corner.
21 minutes into the match, Tobias Thomsen got a free run practically from the middle and scored right down by the post to take the lead 1-0. Just two minutes later, AB again lost the ball in the middle of the pitch and two HB Køge players could run towards goal and Alfred Gøthler could score to take the lead 2-0.
AB did not lose heart and played their way to good opportunities, but Ægir Jarl Jónasson, Jeppe Gertsen and Marcus Immersen all headed past the goal. Close to halftime, Adam Ingi Benediktsson had to go out at full stretch and with a huge save he averted a really good attempt from HB Køge.
AB’s lineup in the 2nd half
In goal was Marcus Bobjerg, with right back Tobias Damtoft, in central defense Marc Dal Hende and Adrien Koudelka, left back Noah Poulsen and in were midfield Søren Ilsøe and Mikkel Brund. On the left wing was Jonathan Mathys and on the right wing, Tobias Hageltorn. Up front played Emil Mygind Jensen and Milan Silva Rasmussen.
During the half, Marc Dal Hende was replaced by Alfred Horup, who came into midfield and Mikkel Brund took a place next to Adrien Koudelka in central defense.
After a few minutes in the 2nd half, an HB Køge player got free close to the box. He tiped the ball over Marcus Bobjerg, who had run out into the box. Fortunately, the ball ended up past the goal. Jonathan Mathys had a better result when, a few minutes later, he tipped the ball over the goalkeeper from a reasonable distance and reduced the score to 2-1.
AB had a good grip on the match, and Milan Silva Rasmussen showed samples of his qualities, when with a move he sent a good shot towards goal, but unfortunately just past the goal. After 79 minutes, Jonathan Mathys became a double goalscorer, when after a good cross, he could send the ball into the goal to equalize 2-2. Emil Mygind Jensen also wanted to join in, and when he received a cross pass, he took a single move and scored to 2-3. With only a few minutes left, HB Køge out of nowhere got space in front of the goal, so Lukas Achton had a free shot, which he placed outside Marcus Bobjerg’s reach.
Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson was overall satisfied with the match:
It was a reasonably even match. In the beginning, we struggled a bit to find the spaces where we should press. We got it under control, but then we made a technical error and they punished us with a goal.
The second goal comes out of a situation that we don’t want to see. We lose the ball far too easily in midfield, we don’t have any pressure and make mistakes. Apart from that, I’m satisfied with the 1st half.In the 2nd half, it was as if the players at the start stood and watched the game. They knew what they had to do, but it took time before they got into a rhythm. We took control and put on the pressure we wanted. I’m a little disappointed with their third goal, but overall it was a good match for us.
The next training match will be played on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM against Hvidovre IF.
