“We’re going crazy – because AB is promoted” was the rhythmic chant from the many fans. It was a lovely summer day, with 1,414 spectators at Gladsaxe Stadium. It was a given that AB had been promoted, but it still turned into a real promotion celebration in the stands. It is rare to see players applauded on the pitch during the warm-up – it happened – and on several occasions all the spectators stood up and applauded enthusiastically. There was good reason for that.
AB played a really good last game of the season and sent Thisted FC the long way home to North Jutland with a 3-0 defeat.
AB took the lead 1-0 on a goal by Jonathan Mathys after 40 minutes, after 55 minutes Casper Grening smashed the ball into the goal to make it 2-0 and Milan Silva Rasmussen scored the third goal after 65 minutes.
Before the match, Milan Silva Rasmussen was voted “Player of the Year in the 2nd Division” by all 2nd Division players. Jonathan Mathys was named “Player of the Year” by AB Forever.
After the match, captain Marc Dal Hende received the trophy as the winner of the 2nd division, amidst great applause and cheers.

AB’s lineup
The coaching team had made some changes for today’s match against Thisted FC compared to last week’s match against Næstved. Adam Ingi Benediktsson, who had been with the Icelandic national team in Japan, was back in goal. Marcus Bobjerg took his place on the bench. At left back, Tobias Damtoft replaced Alfred Horup, who took over right back from Jeppe Gertsen. Søren Ilsøe was back in midfield after suspension and Tobias Lykkebak took his place on the bench.

The starting lineup then looked like this:
In goal Adam Ingi Benediktsson, right back Alfred Horup, in central defense Noah Ibsen and Marc Dal Hende (captain), left back Tobias Damtoft, in midfield Marco Vesterholm and Søren Ilsøe. On the left wing Jonathan Mathys and on the right wing O´Vonte Mullings. Milan Silva Rasmussen and Noah Engell played at the very front.

How it went
No effort was spared when the last match in the 2nd division was played against Thisted FC on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Gladsaxe Stadium. It only took 3 minutes for the first chance to arise and Milan Silva Rasmussen came alone with Thisted FC’s goalkeeper Andreas Raahauge, who managed to tackle the ball for a corner kick. As the match progressed, AB became more and more involved in the game. AB played the ball around, but without any real chances. Thisted tried to use pressure and conversions, but AB’s defense stood strong. The few times Thisted came up with shots, the recently returned Icelandic national team goalkeeper Adam Ingi Benediktsson was in place and once again kept the goal empty.
After 38 minutes, Noah Engel sent the ball into the box from the right side – it undeniably looked like a practiced and successful combination. The ball flew past two AB players who were moving towards the ball in the box. The ball ended up with O’Vonte Mullings, who was completely free and alone with the goalkeeper, but the shot ended up over the goal.
Just two minutes later, Jonathan Mathys was free and ran straight towards Thisted’s goal. He scored safely to make it 1-0 with only 5 minutes left in the first half.

Casper Grening replaced Tobias Damtoft at left back from the start of the second half. AB’s play picked up speed, but Thisted were still dangerous in transitions. Casper Grening soon took one of his well-known moves across the area and knocked the ball into the goal, increasing AB’s lead to 2-0 after 55 minutes.
Thisted kept trying to get more into the game and had two big chances, where Thisted’s energetic striker Angelo Nehmé dribbled through the defense, but Adam Ingi Benediktsson went out to the ball and had it parried away. Similarly, with a cross and a corner kick, Adam was again in place. Jonathan Mathys had another free-kick, but the finish did not lead to a goal.
Jeppe Gertsen came on the field and took over Noah Ibsen’s place in central defense.
O’Vonte Mullings took the long way towards goal on the right side, played back to Milan Silva Rasmussen who finished, but Thisted goalkeeper Andreas Raahauge blocked the shot. Unfortunately for him, he passed the ball straight to Milan Silva Rasmussen, who scored to make it 3-0.
Tobias Hageltorn replaced Milan Silva Rasmussen up front. O’Vonte Mullings left the field and was replaced by Emil Mygind, who celebrated his 100th game, and ran onto the field with great crowd support behind him.
At the end of the match, Noah Engell left the field and was replaced by Marcus Immersen, who took over the position up front.

Jubilant players, coaches, managers and spectators were finally able to vent their joy over the great result in the 2026-2027 season.

100-game jubilee Emil Mygind Jensen, better known as “Myg”, was proud: “My first game was as an U13 player. I had just joined AB in 2012, and we played against BSV on the artificial turf fields at Gladsaxe Stadium. It was a cold autumn day. I both scored and made an assist in that game, so it was a good start.
My debut in the 1st senior was in 2018 on the artificial turf pitch at Skovdiget. We met Lyseng in a 2nd division match, where I came on with 10 minutes left. I remember the match mostly for a very nice assist from Anis Slimane and we won the match. Since then I played a few matches and scored goals.
3.5 years ago I injured my knee and was out for 1.5 years. I struggled with the rehabilitation and it took a long time. Luckily I had our physiotherapist Andreas to guide me and guide me in the right direction.
2 years ago Joye and Fannah came to the club and they gave me my comeback match here at Gladsaxe Stadium. It was huge for me. From being completely out to being able to run back onto the pitch, it was a long, tough match.
Now it has become 100 matches, and I am very proud and happy about that. I am now in the 100-man club. Adrien is also in it, because he managed to overtake me when I was injured and he has been really stable. Of those I have played with, not many have reached the 100 matches, but for example. Albert Nørager and Frederik Ellegaard are in it”, concludes Emil “Myg”.
Captain Marc Dal Hende thanked for the fantastic support: “It’s fantastic, and it’s the culmination of a really hard year with lots of hard work. Nice to be able to give this fantastic backdrop some goals and a victory. So it was nice that we can give back after all the support we’ve received during the season.”
It’s a support that will be important in the future, where we are very excited about how things will go after the summer break. A fantastic ending and where we can celebrate Myg with 100 games. It’s close to my heart. A guy who means so much to the locker room and the culture and it’s so deserved that he gets this tribute.
Great season and we’ll continue next season. We have a lot to build on. But there’s also a different reality waiting after the summer holidays, we just have to acknowledge that. So it has to be at full speed and no one is going to rest on their laurels – that’s for sure”, concludes Marc Dal Hende.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson saw a strong and focused squad: “We have focused a lot on ending the season the right way. Everything we do in the game is right and the players are working fantastically.”
Thisted wanted to take the pace out of the game and have the game over on their terms. We would have liked to have had a slightly higher pace in the 1st half – we got that in the 2nd half. We had full control of the game, and it was our game all the way.
Now there is some time to relax before we start again. I will not start work tomorrow morning, as I usually do. It will not be until Monday that we really start working towards the 1st division”, concludes Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson.

A fantastic season ended on Saturday with a victory and promotion celebration. Now a new chapter awaits, now that the historic return to the 1st division is a reality.
Keep an eye out for upcoming practice matches before the season starts on the weekend of July 24-26, 2026.

Happy summer to everyone!
