AB Gladsaxe hosted Næstved on Friday evening, September 5, 2025, at Gladsaxe Stadium. It was a really good experience – especially the second half which was almost a goal fest. 693 spectators turned up and created a good atmosphere, and even though they had to wait until the last twenty minutes of the match, the mood was high in the stands. The match ended with a 3-0 victory on goals by O’Vonte Mullings (72′) and Noah Engell (82′) and (92′).

AB’s starting line-up

Compared to the latest match against Vendsyssel FF, one change was made. Tobias Damtoft took over the right-back position from Frederik Lindgaard, who was injured. The starting lineup was then: Adam Ingi Benediktsson in goal, at right-back Tobias Damtoft, in central defense Adrien Koudelka (captain) and Noah Ibsen, and at left-back Mikkel Brund. In central midfield were Marco Vesterholm and Ægir Jarl Jónasson, on the right wing O’Vonte Mullings and Tobias Hageltorn on the left wing. Up front were Jonathan Mathys and Marcus Immersen.

Match Report

AB started strongly from the beginning of the match and already after one minute Noah Ibsen got the ball in the goal after a long throw-in in the box from Mikkel Brund, but unfortunately Noah Ibsen was in an offside position. AB pressed forward and after eight minutes, where Næstved had difficulty clearing the ball away, a big chance arose for Marcus Immersen, who came through alone, but Næstved’s goalkeeper Jeppe Rømer Jørgensen made a fine save. Næstved got a big chance after play on their left wing, where they got the ball into AB’s box. Here a Næstved player stood free close in front of goal, but his attempt was masterfully saved by Adam Ingi Benediktsson in AB’s goal. Næstved played with fine combinations around the pitch and especially their left side gave AB challenges. It was in the same period where a shot from Næstved hit the crossbar and AB escaped with a scare.

As the half progressed, play flowed back and forth and there was very good football from both teams. AB fought and battled for every ball. It stood 0-0 when the two teams went to halftime after an even first half where there had been chances at both ends.

AB came out brilliantly at the start of the second half and after a few minutes Tobias Damtoft got close to the goal line and sent a good ball back into the box, where Ægir Jarl Jonasson had an extremely dangerous attempt at Næstved’s goal, but the shot was just blocked by Næstved’s defense. A few minutes later Tobias Damtoft, after some good combinations with O’Vonte Mullings, again sent the ball across to Jonathan Mathys, whose attempt went over the goal.

After 60 minutes AB got a free kick some distance outside the penalty area. Everyone expected a cross, but Marco Vesterholm shot directly at goal and almost fooled Næstved’s goalkeeper, who just managed to tip the ball out for a corner kick. After 62 minutes Søren Ilsøe came on in midfield instead of Ægir Jarl Jonasson. Tobias Hageltorn also went off and Noah Engell came on the pitch and was placed right up front, and Jonathan Mathys took over the left wing.

With 20 minutes left of regular playing time Alfred Peter Horup came on the pitch instead of Jonathan Mathys. Alfred Peter Horup was placed on the left wing. O’Vonte Mullings, who played his 50th match for AB last week against Vendsyssel, scored to make it 1-0 after he had received a loose ball from a Næstved player. He took a short touch toward the center and finished outside the goalkeeper’s reach. Ten minutes later Marcus Immersen got in the way of a goal kick from Næstved’s goalkeeper, and he could head the ball to Noah Engell, who safely sent the ball into the net to make it 2-0. In the closing stages of the match Steven Bala replaced a strongly playing O’Vonte Mullings.

Næstved threw the team forward on the pitch in the final phase in an attempt to change the result and there was also pressure against AB’s goal – among other things Adrien Koudelka had to save an attempt close to the line. In the referee’s added time AB got a counter-attack, which was sent out wide to Marcus Immersen, who took it nicely with him. He shot the ball to the opposite side, where Noah Engell via the post kicked the ball into the goal for a final result of 3-0. Two minutes later the referee’s four minutes of added time had expired.

Captain Adrien Koudelka emphasized that AB again today played as a team: “It resulted in a clean sheet and finally 3 points at home. We were good on the ball today and we got forward on the pitch. I think we had good control of the match, and had things under control almost the whole time. Of course they had a couple of good chances – so did we. Just like in the match against Vendsyssel, we played as a team again today. We are compact and press the game. It looks really good and we must continue the good play. We play again on Tuesday and it will be fun to play against an opponent from the division above ours. We will be completely ready for the match and we are looking forward to it – in cup matches anything can happen”, concluded Adrien Koudelka.

Head coach Joey Gudjonsson had called for goals – and they came today: “It was a good match and it was really close especially in the first half. We created many good opportunities to get down into the final third of the pitch, but we couldn’t finish our attacks. We didn’t switch sides enough and we didn’t play through them, we didn’t shoot enough at goal and didn’t finish our attacks well enough. But what we did well was a really strong press and we defended as a team. Næstved is probably the team in the division that has the ball the most, and they play well. With our press we made it difficult for them to play the game they want to play.

In the second half we played in the same way, but they got tired also because the players we put on the pitch pressed just as hard – so we actually pressed them out of the match. We created good chances and scored goals. It was really nice to see Noah Engell come in from the bench and score two goals. There were many really good performances and as I said to the boys after the match, it’s that we play as a team, defend as a team and press the opponent – that’s the playing style we want to stand for”, concluded Joey Gudjonsson.
