Nice point from Aarhus
AB Gladsaxe traveled to Aarhus today to face the league’s no. 1 Aarhus Fremad. The match ended 1-1 after AB had a 1-0 lead at halftime. With a bit of luck, AB had traveled home with all 3 points. It was AB’s first game of the spring season, and Aarhus Fremad had already played two important games. AB played fresh from the start and already after 2 minutes Frederik Ellegaard had a good shot on goal. Shortly after, Daniel Warmbach goes between a pass between two Aarhus Fremad players and gets the ball. He is tackled and a free kick is awarded, which Albert Nørager sends over to Gustav Overgaard Hansen, who heads a qualified header close to the goal.
These were certainly not the only chances in the match – on the contrary, AB created many great chances during the first half. After fifteen minutes of play, Christoffer Thrane was brought down a few meters outside the penalty area. The referee correctly called a free kick and Marcus Gudmann got ready to take the free kick. As seen before, Marcus Gudmann lifted the ball over the wall and the ball whizzed into the goal with no chance for the goalkeeper. 1-0 to AB. Aarhus Fremad got better in the match and had a dangerous finish, which Marcus Gudmand did well to block. AB played well on the pitch, were consistent in the pressing game and had several good conversions. Frederik Ellegaard intercepts a pass and heads towards Aarhus Fremad’s goal. He passes the ball to Oliver Angus, who puts a good cross into the box, where Albert Nørager gets a flying header – but unfortunately close to the goal. Shortly after, AB had the chance for another goal, but the ball was saved on the line. Aarhus Fremad again had chances, but the defense with Marcus Gudmann, Gustav Overgaard Hansen and Adrien Koudelka stood well. Adrien Koudelka put in a fine performance in his debut match. There was a battle for the ball after a corner kick, and Tobias Brogaard was hit in the head, sending him to the ground. Fortunately, he got back up and stood for the rest of the match. Frederik Ellegaard had another chance after a long pass from Marcus Gudmann, but the ball sneaks past the post. The second half saw Søren Ilsøe, Asger Højmark Jensen, and Emiliano Gomez make their debuts. Emil Wass also wanted to be involved and dribbled free, and he probably should have shot himself instead of playing on, so the chance went begging. Daniel Warmbach had the captain’s role today, and he did it well. With half an hour left, Aarhus Fremad got a corner kick and the ball was headed in by Christian Ege Nielsen to equalize 1-1. The last part of the match was hectic with great chances for both teams. In conclusion, it was a shame that AB’s lead did not last the rest of the match. In the last part of the match, Aarhus Fremad put more pressure on AB, but everyone fought exemplary on a difficult away pitch, so it was a great point in the top match.
Captain Daniel Warmbach said after the match: “I think we played a good first half. We knew it would be a difficult game away against Aarhus Fremad. It was our season opener. I think one point is fine – of course I would have liked three after the first half. I think we fought really well and we were certainly the better team in the first half. It was tough at the end, but we “fought” it home. It was great to play for points again and now we’re ready for the match against B 93 in 14 days”.
Head coach Patrich Birch Braune said: “A very, very intense spring premiere for us, and there are some crucial details where you can see that they have played a few more games. Having said that, I think it’s actually close that we can come away with three points. I don’t think it would have been undeserved either. There must also be a certain humility – to take a point from the number one team in the league, who haven’t lost a game since October. We’ll take the point home – it was our spring premiere. We could have taken all three points – we have a situation where we think the ball is over the goal line, but the referee waves it off”.
The next match is Friday, March 24, 2023 at 19.00 against B93 at Østerbro Stadion.
