It is the last game of the season when AB Gladsaxe makes the trip to Næstved, where Næstved Boldklub awaits on Saturday 14 June at 14.00 at MTM Service Park (Næstved Stadium).
It has been a season that started precisely against Næstved on Saturday 3 August 2024 at Gladsaxe Stadium. It was Næstved’s first game as relegated from the NordicBet league. The game ended 1-1 and August Hlynsson provided AB’s lone goal.
AB will follow up on a terrific end to the season, where the team is unbeaten in the last seven games and has won the last four games – including against the three top teams.
Næstved occupies the 2nd division’s 6th place with 36 points. AB is in 4th place with 48 points.
Næstved lost their last match against Fremad Amager in Sundby with 1-0. AB sent Middelfart home from Gladsaxe Stadium with a four-goal defeat.
AB will have to do without the otherwise well-playing Mikkel Brund, who is out with quarantine. On the other hand, Tobias Hageltorn is back after serving quarantine.
To lead the course of the battle, referee Philip Hovgaard Larsen has been elected and he has on the lines Lars Hummelgaard and Yasin Seker.
Last time the two teams crossed swords
The last time AB met Næstved was at Gladsaxe Stadium on 14 May, and the match also ended here 1-1.
AB’s scorer was Adrien Koudelka, who equalized on a header after a corner kick.
It was a game like many games this season. AB dominated the game, had the ball a lot and created a lot of chances that were not scored. Then AB lost the ball in a play-up and Næstved ran the other way and scored.
O’Vonte Mullings looks back on a good time
“It’s the last game and then the season is over. I think it’s been a good time, and a lot of things happen for different reasons. We learned a lot about ourselves as individual players and as a team. It was in the latter part of the season where you could really see our potential and for us it’s about constantly building on.
I think we are facing a bright future. We are in control of our own destiny and we have the power and abilities to compete with the best – and I believe we will show that next season.
Our goal is always to beat the opponent, and we want to play so that our will and our qualities shine through. Tomorrow it’s Næstved and it’s no different, even though it’s the last game, our focus tomorrow is to show that we’re a better team.
I would like to say thank you for AB Forever’s nomination of me as “Player of the Year”. It means a lot to me, and it shows me that the work I do means something to them too. I really appreciate it and I can’t say thank you enough.
Not only myself, but also the whole team greatly appreciates that AB Forever fans and other supporters follow us throughout the year and support us. Tomorrow we will thank them by finishing at a high level.
Afterwards, it’s vacation – we need that now. We will come back with full focus, fresh legs and clear heads, and stand as strong as we do now,” concludes O’Vonte Mullings.
Head coach Joey Gudjonsson is going for the fifth win in a row
” I think it’s been a long time since AB has won four games in a row, so we want to focus on that. We want to win games and create the habit of winning and be sure that the mentality is always with us. We will work hard and respect the opponent.
When we last played against Næstved at home, we were sloppy for about 70 minutes, we had the ball a lot, but we didn’t create any chances. The game ended 1-1 and it was only after the 70 minutes that we really went for a goal.
After that game, it was just like a turning point for us. We realized that the game that was shown in the first 70 minutes, we would not accept. And in the next games, we have scored a lot of goals against the best teams in the league.
Tomorrow against Næstved, we will probably rotate a bit in the line-up, so we can also look at the younger players. We are providing the tribe, but it will be good to give more playing time to some of the academy players who won the U19 division. We want to see the same mentality, win the game and finish in a strong way – and we will carry that with us into next season.”
