Akademisk Boldklub A/S has signed a contract with left back Travian Sousa from Seattle Sounders. Sousa, 24, has signed a 2.5-year contract that runs until June 2028.

“I am pleased that we have managed to add Travian to our squad and thus build on what lies ahead of us. Travian brings qualities that fit our style of play very well, and we are convinced that we can offer an environment that makes the transition to Danish football easy,” says head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson.

Sousa has spent the last three months on loan with FC Tulsa in the USL Championship, where he helped the club reach the final of the tournament. He is a former U20 international for the USA and has dual citizenship with Portugal.

“Travian has many strong qualities and possesses both good offensive and defensive abilities,” says sporting director Jen Chang. “We weren’t actually planning on making many additions to the squad in this transfer window, and we expect Travian to be our last addition in this winter window. But with Marc Dal Hende now playing regularly as a centre-back for us, we felt we needed to add another left-back to increase competition for the position.”

Sousa began his youth career with Ballistic United SC and Sacramento Republic Academy before joining the academy at Hamburger SV in Germany. He later played for Sporting Kansas City II and Oakland Roots SC before joining Seattle Sounders’ MLS NEXT Pro team, Tacoma Defiance, where he made 61 appearances and scored three goals from 2022–2024.

“I am incredibly happy to have signed with a club with such a well-known history. I think it is every player’s dream to play in Europe, and I am just happy to be able to take the next step in my career with AB. I look forward to meeting the fans and playing in front of everyone at Gladsaxe Stadium,” says Sousa.
