Akademisk Boldklub A/S announces the departure of midfielder Agust Hlynsson. Hlynsson has decided to make use of the release clause in the contract so that he can go home to Iceland and play for Vestri Ísafjördur.

– We are extremely sad to lose Agust, and his decision comes as a great surprise to all of us. Unfortunately, these things happen in football, and we respect that Agust has chosen to move back home to Iceland. Fortunately, we are well guarded in midfield, and we also have some exciting young players on their way of own, so we are very much looking forward to seeing them take the next step, says head coach Joey Gudjonsson.

25-year-old Hlynsson joined AB in January 2024 from Breidablik, and he has scored 6 goals and made 3 assists in his 47 appearances for the club.

– Agust informed me this week of his wish to return to Iceland. He has a clause in his contract that can come into effect upon returning to Iceland, and those conditions have been met. It is ultimately the player’s own decision, but we will miss Agust and wish him the best at his next club,” said sporting director Jen Chang.

Agust Hlynsson has 11 appearances for Iceland’s U21 national team and has previously also played for both Brøndby and AC Horsens in Denmark.

– It has been a huge pleasure to play for AB, and to play at Gladsaxe Stadium in front of the fans was a special feeling. I felt welcome from day one and I’ve loved every moment I’ve had at the club. I have given myself 100% every time I wore the logo.

“I have made a decision to return to Iceland and play. It felt like the right time and the right decision for me. I wish all players, staff, fans and everyone around the club the best in the future, and I know that AB will go up every single day, says Agust Hlynsson.
