AB Gladsaxe played today, Wednesday September 9, 2025, in front of 1,055 spectators against B.93 in the Oddset Cup. AB played an excellent match against a strong B.93, who normally play in the Betinia League. After a 1-1 draw in regular time, the match went to extra time, but neither team scored and the match was decided on penalties. Here AB drew the short straw with two missed penalties and B.93 could look forward to the next match in the cup tournament with their four goals.
AB’s Lineup
Since AB had played on Friday and already have to play again on Friday, there was quite a bit of rotation in the team.
AB lined up as follows: Adam Ingi Benediktsson in goal, at right back Frederik Lindgaard, in central defense Adrien Koudelka (captain) and Jeppe Gertsen, and at left back Noah Poulsen. In central midfield were Søren Ilsøe, Alfred Horup and Ægir Jarl Jónasson, on the right wing Tobias Hageltorn and on the left wing Jonathan Mathys. Up front was Noah Engell.
Match Report
AB had control of the match from the start. AB pushed their back line high up the pitch and pressed B.93 all the way back. AB played really well with great energy and pace and combined their way around the B.93 players. Up front, Tobias Hageltorn had a great opportunity early on after a good pass from Alfred Horup, who played a fine match today. Later Alfred Horup took a shot from outside, but it was blocked for a corner, which Adrien Koudelka headed, but unfortunately the ball went over the goal.
After 23 minutes of play, Noah Engell won the ball and played it out to Frederik Lindgaard. He sent a good cross into the box, where Tobias Hageltorn got his foot on it and scored for a fully deserved 1-0 lead.
AB had full control of the match until a moment of inattention, where Vito Edgar Hammershøy after 39 minutes got space to shoot and the ball went into the goal for a 1-1 equalizer with no chance for AB’s goalkeeper Adam Ingi Benediktsson.
Before the start of the second half, Noah Engell was substituted and replaced by Marco Ramkilde, who was positioned up front alongside Tobias Hageltorn. The second half was only ½ minute in when Tobias Hageltorn took his chance as B93’s goalkeeper was a bit far out of the goal area. Tobias Hageltorn shot a relatively high ball towards goal – but the ball hit the crossbar.
AB’s back line stood solid and managed to ward off the few opportunities that B.93 had. Noah Poulsen played especially well, despite his young age, like an experienced and clever football player. Søren Ilsøe had several good switches across the pitch, but the finishes were saved by B.93’s goalkeeper.
B.93 had more possession and got some opportunities to score, but their finishes were not so dangerous. The times they came close to goal, Adam Ingi Benediktsson was ready with saves. B.93 had among other things after 53 minutes a really good and hard shot from distance, but the ball ended up just wide of goal. After 61 minutes of play, Noah Ibsen came into central defense and Adrien Koudelka took a place on the bench. Just under ten minutes later, a B.93 player was completely free and raced towards goal. Noah Ibsen ran him down and elegantly played the ball away from him. Marco Vesterholm came on and replaced Ægir Jarl Jónasson.
During the second half, Søren Ilsøe was moved to right back and Frederik Lindgaard moved forward to the right wing. With just under 10 minutes remaining, Marco Ramkilde was close to scoring when he turned in the box and shot, but wide of goal.
At the end of regular time, the score remained 1-1 and the match went to extra time. Marco Ramkilde was replaced by O’Vonte Mullings, who was positioned at the top. Tobias Damtoft came on and took over the right wing from Frederik Lindgaard. There were not many very dangerous chances for either team. Both teams tried to maintain possession, but it didn’t change much. AB’s head coach Joey Gudjonsson received a red card after he, in connection with a throw-in to B.93, threw the ball onto the pitch.
When the stadium clock reached 120 minutes, the match went to a penalty shootout. For AB, Marco Vesterholm, Jeppe Gertsen and Tobias Damtoft scored. Unfortunately, O’Vonte Mullings and Steven Bala missed. B.93 scored their penalties and were thus the winners of the match.
Captain Søren Ilsøe was naturally disappointed but also proud: “I would be lying if I didn’t say we are very disappointed. In regular time I think we are the better team. We have fine big chances and we really stretched them.
Despite the fact that we have made a lot of rotations in today’s match, because we played four days ago and play again on Friday. The level doesn’t drop at all because of that. It’s obviously annoying that it ends this way. We also believe that the ball is in on our last penalty. So you’re left with such a disappointing feeling here afterwards, but all in all I’m proud of the performance we put in today. We play with several academy players today. They are so hungry and they just deliver a rock-hard effort and it’s so great to see.
When you’re out of the cup tournament, we can narrow our focus to what’s really important – and that is that we need to get promoted this year and win the 2nd division. So now there’s full focus on that. Now there’s nothing to distract – even though it would obviously have been fun to face Brøndby.
I think the feeling is both disappointment but also pride in playing so well against a 1st division team that comes with everything they have. Today you can’t see any difference between 1st and 2nd division at all. The sum of the positive in this match far exceeds the negative – and that’s a good feeling,” concludes Søren Ilsøe.
Head coach Joey Gudjonsson was very proud of the players’ effort: “It was a completely fantastic match by the boys. It’s clear that we really wanted to win the cup match and advance in the tournament. I can’t be happier with the boys’ effort than I am today. They gave so much, created chances and scored a completely incredible goal. B.93 got the equalizer and we should have avoided that especially because he shoots from far out. We limited their chances in normal time, and they should never have scored the goal.
That’s also how cup matches are with drama and many emotions. We did everything we could to win the match and advance. A bit unfair is that Steven Bala’s penalty actually – we can see on the replay – is over the line, but no goal is awarded. So it hurts a bit more than it should.
Everyone is so concentrated throughout the entire match and they back each other up as a team. The young players go in with the same energy and fight really well throughout the entire match. Now we have three matches in a row where we have played really well. Unlucky is that today we are eliminated by two penalties. That’s how football is sometimes. Nothing can be guaranteed, but the effort was top class across the board.
It was really nice with the many supporters, and we could really feel that they stood behind us and backed us up. I also think they were aware that the players worked hard for AB. I really hope they go home and are still proud of their team. I am very proud of the team and of everyone who was involved in the match today. It’s just a shame we didn’t advance. Now we can focus 100% on the league – and we have an important match already on Friday,” concludes Joey Gudjonsson.
The next league match will be played Friday September 12, 2025 at 7:00 PM in Roskilde Sports Park.
