Akademisk Boldklub A/S has agreed a deal with Skive to sign their captain, midfielder Marco Vesterholm. Vesterholm, 26, has signed a 3-year deal with AB until June 2028.

“I’m happy that we’ve succeeded with adding Marco to the team. He was a player who caught my eye in a positive way during our matches last year, and his intensity on the pitch fits well in the way we want to play. I’m really looking forward to working with him and getting him integrated into our squad,” says head coach Joey Gudjonsson.

Vesterholm appeared in 29 games and scored 3 goals Skive during the 2024/25 season. For his career at Skive he appeared in 45 games and scored 4 goals. He originally joined Skive in February 2024 after playing for both Elon University and Virginia Tech University from 2021 to 2024.

“Marco has an excellent mentality and he brings a lot of intensity and energy to the field.” said Sporting Director Jen Chang. “We feel good about the young academy midfielders in our squad, but we also felt we needed one more senior central midfielder following Agust Hlynsson’s departure to give us more options and competition in midfield.”

Vesterholm started his youth career with the Randers academy. He captained their U13, U15, U16 and U19 squads and appeared in 49 games for Randers U19.

“I’m really happy to be able to join AB, as it’s a club with great traditions and big ambitions. I’m confident that I’ll be able to develop here, while also helping the team reach the club’s goals. It will be a great experience to have Gladsaxe Stadium as home field and to play in front of all the AB fans,” says Marco Vesterholm.
