The stage was set for a good match after AB Gladsaxe’s 6 consecutive victories and a position as number 1 in the table. Add to this the fact that Fremad Amager had to concede a defeat the last time the two teams met at Gladsaxe Stadium. So the course was set for the 7th victory in a row, and there were high expectations among the 939 spectators for a good match. It seemed likely that AB would play their way to another victory. But that’s not how it went – and the winning streak didn’t continue. AB lost 2-1, after being down 2-0. AB managed to reduce the deficit with a penalty, which was committed against Noah Engell and he scored confidently for the 2-1 result.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a setback, but it seemed as if Fremad Amager’s game plan was to waste time and otherwise play on counterattacks. AB was not able to get off to as good a start as they have been accustomed to recently.

AB’s lineup

Compared to last week’s match against Brabrand, Søren Ilsøe returned from suspension, replacing Ægir Jarl Jónasson, who took a place on the bench. The starting lineup was as follows: Adam Ingi Benediktsson in goal, Frederik Lindgaard on the right side of defense, Adrien Koudelka and Noah Ibsen in central defense, and Tobias Damtoft on the left side of defense. In the central midfield were Marco Vesterholm and Søren Ilsøe (captain), with O’Vonte Mullings on the right wing and Jonathan Mathys on the left wing. Noah Engell and Marcus Immersen were up front.

Match Report

After just 23 seconds, AB was up in Fremad Amager’s penalty area, where Noah Engell rounded a defender and passed to Marcus Immersen in the middle. He turned decisively and shot well towards goal, but Fremad Amager’s goalkeeper pulled off a good save.

AB had several good attempts which, on a good day, could have ended up in the goal. But either Fremad Amager’s goalkeeper Casper Vedel-Birch Andersen got in the way or the ball ended up wide of the goal. AB had several corner kicks, but they didn’t result in big chances that could be converted into goals.

Fremad Amager was under pressure in the first half hour, where they frequently kicked the ball out for throw-ins. AB played around and tried to move quickly up the field. AB had difficulty setting up their play, and Fremad Amager stopped the fluid game with physical play and fight.

It was Fremad Amager who scored first. On a good corner kick, AB’s goalkeeper Adam Ingi Benediktsson jumped up for the ball, but Fremad Amager’s Mads-Emil Langberg got there first and was able to score for 1-0, which was the score at halftime.

AB came out fresh for the 2nd half and managed to push the play up to Fremad Amager’s half of the field. There were more opportunities, but the finishing was still not precise enough. Fremad Amager played solely on counterattacks, and it paid off. After 51 minutes, a couple of Fremad Amager players ran through AB’s central defenders and got completely free, but Adam Ingi Benediktsson made a really good save and prevented a further lead. However, it only took 3 minutes, and it happened again, and here Souheid Dhaflaoui could increase Fremad Amager’s lead to 2-0.

After 58 minutes, Marc Dal Hende came on the field and replaced Noah Ibsen in central defense.

Marcus Immersen went out, and Casper Grening came on the field and positioned himself on the left wing. Jonathan Mathys was moved to the central attack.

AB didn’t give up and came closer to real chances. Noah Engell dribbled into the box, but he was fouled and the referee correctly awarded a penalty. Noah Engell himself shot the ball into the goal to reduce the score to 2-1 after 65 minutes of play.

After 71 minutes of play, Marco Ramkilde came into the attack and Jonathan Mathys took a place on the bench. Ægir Jarl Jónasson replaced Marco Vesterholm in central midfield.

There was still plenty of time left in the match, and AB fought for the equalizing goal. Casper Grening sought the baseline and managed to pass to O’Vonte Mullings, who sent a really good shot towards goal. Fremad Amager’s goalkeeper magically cleared the shot with a save that not all goalkeepers would have made.

After 87 minutes, Frederik Lindgaard took a shot, but the ball unfortunately landed in the side netting. AB put pressure on with all players, which resulted in a transition for Fremad Amager, where two players were completely free on goal, but the strong Adrian Koudelka intervened and blocked the shot.

The referee had added 6 minutes of overtime and after 94 minutes Casper Grening again sought into the box. He fell to the ground and suddenly almost all players from both teams were agitated and gathered in a cluster in Fremad Amager’s penalty area. It caused some tumult and ended with a yellow card for Christoffer Boateng and a red card for Casper Grening. Søren Ilsøe also had to receive a yellow card when the referee wouldn’t talk to him despite him being the captain.

Captain Søren Ilsøe felt that the final quality was missing:

Fremad Amager made it difficult for us today, and they played to their strengths. It’s a lot about duels and coincidences. I think especially at the start, we get quite a few good chances. In the previous matches, we’ve just scored on such chances and then we’ve been ahead. We didn’t do that today and then by coincidence they get a stupid goal where I think we’re really unlucky.

I actually think we come back well especially in the 2nd half, where we get to play the way we want to. Again, some coincidences occur and then we’re down 2-0. Then it becomes a long way back when they play like that. Even though it was 2-0, we agreed that we could still catch up. We just needed to score a goal. The feeling was also, after we made it 2-1, that we would surely get the next goal.

O’Vonte Mullings also gets a huge chance where their goalkeeper pulls off a great save. If we score on that, it’s 2-2 but it wasn’t our day today. We really fight for it and I need to go home and watch the match to see if we should have done something differently. It was like the passes didn’t quite sit right in our feet today – we’re missing that final quality. However, I think everyone was on and we work incredibly hard. They stood well in their lines and really close and then they go hard into the duels. We just have to get back on the horse again and keep working as we usually do.

Head coach Joey Gudjonsson says the players will come back strong:

Fremad Amager had changed a bit in their starting lineup and they played 4-4-2. They came after us and pressed us, and that was fine most of the time in the 1st half, because we managed to get through and create chances, but we couldn’t get the ball in the goal. We were a bit too satisfied with their goal, I think. We pressed them on a throw-in, and they managed to pass across and get a corner kick. It shouldn’t have been a problem, but they scored. We know that they have scored most of their goals on set pieces, and they’re good at that. However, I think we were too soft and could have attacked the ball. That was disappointing.
We came out for the 2nd half after we had dominated the game in the 1st half. We weren’t the best offensively today. We created situations, but they didn’t turn into threats against their goal. We didn’t shoot enough and didn’t hit the target enough. Most times we hit their front defender, and we had quite a few shots that went over the goal.
And their second goal – what an evening it was for us. Goal kick from them and the ball is headed on. We even play the ball through our own defense, so Fremad Amager players could run all the way up to our goal – and then they scored. It was a match where we clearly feel we’re not playing up to our best. We should never have lost the match today – we deserved a draw, for example where their goalkeeper makes a fantastic save from O’Vonte.

Although we didn’t play up to our best, the players fought hard. It’s a fantastic squad to have for me as a head coach.
It’s a bad match, and you can’t win all matches. Today wasn’t a perfect match and we lost. I know the boys will come on Monday to a new week where they have their heads up. We have few matches until the winter break. They will work hard so we are prepared to be the best version of ourselves when we meet Vendsyssel at home – we will come back stronger than what we gave today.

The next match is at Gladsaxe Stadium on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM, where Vendsyssel will visit.
