Tomorrow Friday, August 29, 2025, AB Gladsaxe will make the long trip to Hjørring, where Vendsyssel FF will host them. Match referee Benjamin Seferovic will blow the whistle to start the match at 7:00 PM at Nord Energi Arena, Femhøje 5A in Hjørring, and he has Jonas Bæk and Martin Bødker Jensen on the sidelines.
It’s one of the season’s longest away trips and also one of the toughest matches when Vendsyssel FF awaits. Vendsyssel is relegated from the 1st division and has a declared goal of returning to the 1st division as quickly as possible. Vendsyssel FF also sits in fourth place in the table with nine points. However, Vendsyssel lost their last match against Roskilde 2-0 in Roskilde. AB, as we know, lost at home at Gladsaxe Stadium 3-2 to Thisted. AB has 6 points in 7th place.
A bit of history
We have to go all the way back to April 30, 2017, to find the last match between the two teams. AB lost 3-0 at Gladsaxe Stadium. We go back to November 23, 2014, to find AB’s last victory in Hjørring against Vendsyssel FF. AB won 1-0. AB’s goalscorer was Younes Namli, who was sold to SC Heerenveen after the season ended. Ten years later, Younes Namli is still a professional football player and currently plays for Le Havre AC.
Jonathan Mathys has a good feeling: “I think it will be a top match between a team that has been relegated and a team that wants to get promoted. We’re playing for the three points, but also to take points from one of the teams we’ll be fighting against at the top of the table. We’ve prepared well for the match, and we’ve recovered from the defeat against Thisted. We put it behind us quickly, and when we went to the training ground the day after, we were ready and even with greater spark. It’s wonderful to see that it hasn’t affected the squad at all after such a defeat, but that we actually get a boost, so we’ve moved on quickly.
It’s great to see the squad bounce back like that. The loss didn’t drag us down — it actually gave us a boost.
We need to bring the intensity we lacked against Thisted. It was clear that performance wasn’t good enough, and we’re using that as motivation to push harder. We want to show everyone — AB fans and others — that we’re capable of much more than what they saw last Saturday. I’m hoping for an early goal — and from there, we go all in. I’ve got a really good feeling.”
Head coach Joey Gudjonsson believes in a victory: “After a very disappointing match against Thisted, we’ve worked well all week. Everyone agreed that our defensive work was not acceptable. We created chances, and we scored goals – so we know we can score. We’ve worked on the defensive side, and the players have worked hard and with good humor. We must not become passive and stand on our heels – we need to get on our toes and press them and still work according to our philosophy. We need to be ourselves and not be afraid of anything.
We’re not just going to Hjørring to perform well – we’re going there because we really believe we can win the match. Football never becomes predictable, but the feeling we have now and the way the players have worked this week puts us in a good position, so we can go there and get the three points. Vendsyssel is a very solid team. They have really good players, they have a good back line. They like to press and they’re good at it. They’re physically strong and they want to use pace and power to get their wingers going. They’re also good at throw-ins and set pieces. So we need to control the match and be ready to receive them – but first and foremost we need to defend ourselves and thereby earn the right to attack,” concludes Joey Gudjonsson.
