AB Gladsaxe takes the bus early Saturday morning and heads to Brabrand’s Sports Complex “AURA Park” on Engdalsvej 86 in Brabrand, where referee Sebastian Tornhøj Nielsen together with Martin Outzen and Niels Heer will blow the whistle at 2:00 PM for another match in CampoBet 2nd Division.

It is currently a relegation battle between 11th and 12th place, and AB must ensure this changes with the 3 points that a victory provides.

Brabrand is a promoted team and lost their first match in the local derby against VSK Århus. Last weekend they lost 3-1 at home to Vendsyssel FF. AB lost their last match at home at Gladsaxe Stadium 2-1 to FC Helsingør.

It has always been close matches between AB and Brabrand, and the most recent encounter in October 2023 in Brabrand ended 2-2 with goals from Mark Garly Pedersen and Tim Freriks, who as we know is now flourishing at Viborg FF.

Casper Grening says the team must stay true to itself: “We are all really looking forward to the match. We have a lot to prove and we need to chase revenge from last week’s game. It doesn’t matter who we face, because we look forward to all matches and we need to chase 3 points. I think it will be an interesting match, although it’s hard to know exactly what they’ll bring.

We come charging, as we always do, and then we’ll see what awaits us. We always believe we are the best team, and with that mentality, it really doesn’t matter who we face.

The training week has been really good. There was intensity from the start and we really got through our training. The boys have trained hard and there has been plenty of good spirits. We clearly have a sense that we did our best against Helsingør, but we just lacked that final touch. We did many of the right things that we can take with us and build upon. It’s not that we need to create a new game plan. We must stay true to ourselves and we are confident in the quality we have”, concludes Casper Grening.

Head coach Joey Gudjonsson emphasizes that AB must play their own game:

“Brabrand is definitely a good team that did well in their promotion campaign. They are physical and we need to be able to withstand that. We need to focus on what we want to do in the match. We did some good things in the first half against Helsingør, but then we came out in the second half and gave it away. We can’t do that against any team in this division. If you give them opportunities right inside the penalty area, they will always have a great chance to score.

We need to be stable in our defense, we shouldn’t take chances, we need to play in the right areas and create chances, as we always do. We were unlucky not to score in the first half and take the lead.

We need to be the team we want to be for all 90 minutes. Be solid, strong and defend as a unit. We are really good when we press, and all the hard work we do, we must not throw away by making silly mistakes.

It’s never positive to lose a match, but maybe we reached the realization that we don’t need to be perfect, but we have to be ourselves in order to win games. We need to have control over what we do and let the opponents do what they want to do. We will take control of the matches and win them – we don’t need to give the opponent anything at all. I think the players have learned a lot from the first match and we will take that forward”, concludes Joey Gudjonsson.
