Akademisk Boldklub A/S announces the departure of winger and right-back, Steven Simpson. Simpson has decided to make use of the clause in his contract that gives him the right to move to another club.
“We are incredibly disappointed that Steven has chosen a different direction than the one we had set out on together, but we respect his choice. He is incredibly well-liked at the club, so I am sure he will miss us, just as we will also miss him,” says head coach Joey Gudjonsson.
25-year-old Simpson joined the club in August 2024 from Esbjerg fB with three goals and three assists in 27 games.
“Steven’s departure comes unexpectedly. We had spoken to him lately, where he had reaffirmed his commitment to us. We told him that we intended to keep the core of the team and the starting eleven players in the coming season,” says sports director Jen Chang. “Nevertheless, Steven has chosen to make use of his clause in the contract, and we are sad to see him leave AB. We thank him for all his hard work in the past season.”
Steven Simpson wishes the club the best of luck in the coming season.
“It is a spontaneous decision to leave AB, and I did not expect to leave the club so quickly. I would like to thank everyone in AB. I will miss the locker room, the staff and a superb fan base filled with a lot of amazing people. I look forward to following the development in AB, and wish the club all the best next season,” says Steven Simpson.
